Introduction - classification of vehicles - types on road vehicles, off-road vehicles and cross
country vehicles and its functions materials for automobile components and its properties
(Mechanical, physical and chemical).
Module II

Engine components - cylinders and cylinder head, piston and piston rings, connecting rod,
crankshaft, valves (or) ports, fly wheel, cam and king pin. Fuels, carburator, fuel pump and its
working principles, types of lubrications used in automobile engines.
Transmission components - clutch and its levergear box - universal joint-propeller shaft,
differential unit, rear axle, brakes and wheels.
Module III

Chassis components - different types of chassis and its sections, suspensions - diferent types
of springs and dampers (absorber).Basic electrical circuits and battery used in automobiles.
Case study: Gyroscopic couples used in automobiles. Study the system of royal Enfield.
Study of form icon engine system. Study of Ashok Leyland chassis with cross members.

4. Study of Ackerman steering geometry.
5. Demonstration of differential unit.
6. Study of centrifugal clutch (TVS 50).

10. Demonstration of front axle and rear axle of the four wheeler.
