Drive options
Hydraulic rake drive
Outotec hydraulic drives use a hydraulic motor,
acting through a high efficiency planetary gearbox to
drive the rakes. An optional rake lifting mechanism
comprises a number of hydraulic cylinders operating
in parallel, which raise and lower the drive base and
rake mechanism. Dedicated rake drive and rake lift
hydraulic pumps are driven by a single electric motor.
Each power pack is custom designed for the application
and uses standard hydraulic components for reliability
and ease of maintenance.
Advantages of hydraulic drives:
nn Drive and lift hydraulic circuits
achieved within single power pack

Quality assured

nn Variable speed
nn Simple, accurate monitoring of

Outotec drives are designed to extremely rigid codes

including, for example, AGMA gear design criteria. Such
codes offer high degrees of serviceability and access.
All parts, including the pinions and main bearing, can
be serviced and replaced without removal of major
components such as the bridge, feedwell or feed piping.
With multi planetary designs, drives can still operate
while pinions are removed for service.

Outotec multi-pinion drives

Outotec multi-pinion drives utilise individual planetary
gearboxes as pinion reducers, driving a large diameter
geared slewing bearing to provide high output torques
and load bearing capacity.
The drive assembly is mounted inside a purpose-built
casing, utilising the latest FEA modelling methodology.
The slewing bearing and pinions operate in a fully
immersed oil bath, which ensures constant lubrication
and long life under the most demanding conditions.
For multi-pinion drives, individual pinions can be
removed for service while maintaining drive operation.
SBD bridge drives
The SBD family is specifically designed for full span
bridge thickeners that demand high torque and axial
load capacity. The main applications include high

compression and paste thickeners which require a

design to handle the severe forces associated with
processing mud and scale loads.

SCD column drives

The SCD family of rake drives and lifting systems is
custom-built for large centre column thickeners and
clarifiers to achieve a robust and reliable design. With
centre column designs, the bridge, rake mechanism,
feed system and drive are all supported by a central
column. This design eliminates the need for a full span
