REFLECTION
1. What were

at least two of the biggest problems you encountered during the Internship
experience?
One of the problems I encountered during my internship was students who have food
allergies. The other problem I encountered was
2. What did you learn from the experience of working with other people?
I learned that working with other people can be challenging at times especially if you do not
see eye to eye. It also can be challenging if they do things differently than you do.
3. What personal satisfaction was gained from the Internship experience?
I was satisfied with the fact that I got to meet new people. I also liked that I found my future
career path.
4. Briefly describe the risk you took in completing this Internship. Include what you consider
to be the stretch in this Internship for you.
A risk I took in completing this internship was giving up classes that could have helped me in
this field. I took the internship experience because I did not think I would get another
opportunity like this.
5. How were your original plans for the Internship the same or different from the final
outcome of your experience? Did this affirm your career choice or cause you to reconsider?
My plans for the internship were about the same as I had expected. I really enjoyed
everything about the experience. If I could go back and do it for another semester I would in a
heartbeat. Having this experience with the third graders and their teachers really helped me
make my decision to become an elementary teacher.
6. Do you feel you were able to meet your Training Plan goals and objectives? If not, what
were the obstacles?
I do believe I was able to meet my training plan goals and objectives. I did a lot of small group
work, helped prepare for the small group work, and I also learned how to prepare a lesson
plan and how much work it takes to complete it.
7. How did this internship change and/or reinforce your views and assumptions about the
profession?
Having gone through this internship and seeing everything a teacher does in a day helped
reinforce my views on this profession.

8. What did the program teach you about yourself?

This experience helped me learn a lot about myself. It helped me learn that I need to be more
confident in what I am doing. I also need to have more patience and be stricter with some
students.
9. What would you do differently now that you have finished your internship experience?
I would not do anything differently, except I would like to experience a younger grade.
10. Tell us what method you used to thank your mentor.
I got a CHristmas gift for each of my mentors and I also wrote them a thank you card stating
how thankful I was for them letting me come experience their classrooms.
11. What ways could you have been better prepared by the program coordinators in feeling
able to perform what was expected of you? What suggestions do you have to improve the
seminar (classroom) portion of this experience?
I would have liked to know how to prepare a lesson plan and to be able to see the process of
it all. I think it would have been more beneficial for us all to know that we should write thank
you cards for your interviews and to write thank yous to your mentor.
12. In what other ways could you have been assisted by your mentor in growing in your skill set
or best performing in your internship? What suggestions do you have to improve the
worksite portion of this experience?
I had a great worksite experience, but I think it would have been more fun to get up in front
of the class more and be able to teach them more or just to be able to get up in front of the
class more.
13. In what ways did your education thus far prepare you for what was asked of you on the job?
In what ways was it found lacking? What skills or classes, if any, do you feel would be
helpful to others considering a career in this field (existing classes or ones youd like to see
created)?
I think if anyone is planning on doing an internship in the elementary education field they
should take Early Childhood Education. It was helpful because I got to see first grade in the
Early Childhood Education class and in my internship I got to see third grade.
14. What grade would you give yourself for the program (separate the work from the seminar
component and assess your grade for both)? Give your justification.
I did the best I could and completed everything I was asked when I was at my worksite. I also
used my time wisely during our seminar days to work on our assignments that were pushed
out. I think if I was given a grade for the internship experience I would give myself an A.
