First Aid Procedure Template

First, contact a trained First Aider if there is an accident and one is available. Their names and contact details can be found online. If a First Aider is not present, contact either the Health Service during business hours or Security at any time, as all Security staff are trained in First Aid. To call an ambulance, dial 000 and also notify Security so they can direct emergency services to the correct location. The document also provides information on the location of First Aid kits and notes that trained First Aiders are indemnified if they act within their training and do not engage in misconduct.

Who else do I need to call in the event of an accident?


In the absence of a First Aider, it may be appropriate to contact either the Health Service (phone
12118 between 9.00am and 5.00pm) or Security (phone 12880 at any time). All University Security
staff are trained in both First Aid and Emergency procedures.

To Call an Ambulance (only if required) Dial (0-000) and then call Security

Security staff (12880) must be informed if you call an ambulance, so that they can direct the
ambulance to the correct building.

Note: First Aiders will be indemnified if they have made themselves available for, and have
undertaken, appropriate training, if they acted in accordance with their training and exercised
their best judgment at the time and if they have not engaged in misconduct. In addition, staff
members, including those with specific First Aid training, are not required to carry out First Aid
procedures that they are not comfortable with, even if they have been fully trained in those
procedures.
