DSL API Cat I II Training PDF

The document discusses a new e-learning course from DSL Training Academy for drilling crews to be trained on conducting API Category I and II inspections of drilling structures like masts and derricks. The 4-hour online course covers inspecting raising systems, structure components, crown blocks, wire ropes, safety equipment and hydraulic systems. By training drill crews, drilling contractors can better monitor structure condition between required inspections to avoid downtime from undetected issues. DSL developed the course using its expertise in drilling structure design, manufacturing and training to enhance rig safety.

Drilling Structures Inspection

for Drill Crews via E-Learning
DSL has developed an E-Learning Course specifically to provide the training
required for drill crews to carry out API 4G Cat I & II inspections of drilling
structures, (masts & substructures & offshore derricks). The course has been
created from content of the API certified DSL training for API 4G Cat III & IV
inspections so as to arm drill crew personnel with the ability to carry out
routine inspections to ensure that no significant issues with the structure have
developed since its last inspection.

The course will take an average of 4 hours to complete including built-in tests,
and the content includes the following;

Introduction to Drilling Structures

Overview of API Cat I & II inspections

Inspection of Raising Systems and Transport Damage

Inspection of Drilling Structure Components

Inspection of Crown Blocks

Inspection of Wire Ropes

Inspection of Access & Safety Equipment

Inspection of Hydraulic Systems, hoses and piping

It is not unusual for drilling structures to develop faults/issues between Cat III
& IV inspections that then result in downtime due to repairs upon the results
of the Cat III & IV Inspections. By arming drill crews with the knowledge to
identify and report the more common faults and issues, this will in turn allow
drilling contractors to both be aware of the current condition of their
structure on an ongoing basis, as well as plan any repairs required between rig
moves or periodical maintenance, or more urgently if a significant issue is
discovered.

Candidates taking this course can complete it at their own leisure, with tests
at the end of each module to ensure that the candidates have absorbed the
necessary learning of that section. The course will be available in a range of
languages so as to ensure that a very broad range of drill crews can undertake
this training.

Successful candidates will also gain from periodical technical bulletins and
safety alerts from DSL regarding drilling structure issues and advice so as to
continue to empower drill crews to enhance another element of rig safety.

DSL has drawn upon its extensive experience, knowledge, industry licences
and accreditations applicable to drilling structures to create this course, and it
closes another hole in the training and competency safety net of drilling rig
operations.

DSL holds API 4F & 8C licences for the design and manufacture of drilling
structures and hoisting equipment, it has an API & IADC approved Training
Academy and OPITO & IADC accredited Competency Management System.
