Introduction
201314 Achievements
1) During 201314 AEGIC made significant progress towards its objective of becoming a national centre of grain quality research
by partnering with universities and industry bodies on joint research initiatives. Examples include:
AEGICs collaboration with Murdoch University in the Grain Protein Chemistry Capacity Building Program. This Program sees
the appointment of a Professor of Grain Protein Chemistry; three post-doctorate positions and 10 PhD students to explore
the functional proteins of Australias grains.
A Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Environment and Primary Industries, Victoria for collaborative
market research and export grain quality research.

Research Portfolios
A partnership with Edith Cowan University for the operation of Pilot Malting Australia Australias first national micro-
malting plant with the aim of hastening the accreditation of new barley varieties.
Informal collaborations with Austrade and Grain Growers Limited.
2) During 201314 AEGIC facilitated the transfer of technical information to international customers through seven in-market
visits (Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Korea, China (x2)) including the hosting of industry workshops in Jakarta, Tokyo
and Seoul. AEGIC also established the Australian Grain Update a monthly e-newsletter for international customers which
provides technical and market updates pertaining to Australian grain.
3) During December 2013 AEGIC released a report The cost of Australias bulk grain export supply chain. The publication is
the culmination of research into operation of Australias bulk supply chains and the identification of opportunities for
improved efficiencies. Following a nation-wide tour highlighting the findings, AEGIC released a post-script to the report during
March 2014 which outlined seven priority areas for continued research and further industry probing. The report attracted
considerable positive media coverage and prompted good engagement with AEGIC by Australian grain growers.

Support Services
4) AEGICs grain yield forecasts down to a shire level; soil moisture maps and crop prospects reports are distributed regularly
(depending on the product type) to Australian grain growers via email; AEGIC website and social media. These products have
been received well by growers with positive feedback provided via social media. The products have also been published by
mainstream rural media and included in the newsletters of grain grower groups.
5) AEGIC has carried out significant research of Australias established and emerging export grain markets to identifying
opportunities for research and development initiatives that will further enhance the value of Australias grain exports.
Countries of focus have included Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, China, the Middle East and North Africa. To a lesser
extent research has also been carried out in regard to the operations of emerging international competitors such as India
and nations in the Black Sea region. The result of this research has been distributed via AEGICs In the Loop publication a
monthly e-newsletter for grain growers and Australian grain industry stakeholders; media products; and specialised reports
such as Australian wheat to Japan status, opportunities and outlook.

Our Organisation
6) AEGIC is increasingly recognised as the front-door to Australias grains industry and a provider of independent, credible
information. The media regularly seeks comment from AEGIC on grain export related matters. AEGIC has featured in the media
in excess of 400 times during 201314. Financial Statements

Notes to the Financial Statements

Introduction
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2014

1 Statement of Significant Accounting Policies

This financial report is a special purpose financial report prepared in order to meet the needs of Members and which has
been prepared specifically for distribution to Members in accordance with the Companys Constitution.
The Directors have determined that the Company is not a reporting entity.
The financial report has been prepared in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001 and the disclosure requirements of
Accounting Standards:
AASB 101: Presentation of Financial Statements

Research Portfolios
AASB 107: Statement of Cash Flows
AASB 108: Accounting Policies, Changes in Accounting Estimates and Errors
AASB 1031: Materiality
AASB 1048: Interpretation of Standards; and
AASB 1054: Australian Additional Disclosures.
The financial report is prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historic costs and does not take into account changing
money values except where specifically stated.
The following material accounting policies have been adopted and it is intended, in the absence of fundamental change, that
the policies be applied consistently in subsequent reporting periods.
(a) Reporting Period

Support Services
The financial statements are for the reporting period 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.
(b) Comparative figures
When required by Accounting Standards, comparative figures have been adjusted to conform to changes in presentation
for the current financial year.
(c) Income Tax & Payroll Tax
No provision for income tax has been raised as the Company has received a private ruling from the Australian Taxation
Office, valid until 30 June 2016, confirming that AEGIC is exempt from income tax under section Item 1.3 of section 50-5
of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
The Company has also received a ruling from WA State Revenue that AEGIC is exempt from State payroll tax.

Our Organisation
(d) Going Concern
This report has been prepared on a going concern basis. Unless there is an earlier significant material adverse event,
the Board does not expect there to be a need to change this policy prior to 201415 financial year.
(e) Revenue Recognition
Revenue for services rendered is recognised and accrued during the period it is derived and shown in the accounts
net of GST. Interest income is accrued and recognised during the period it is derived using the effective rate method.
Revenue from contractual arrangements is recognised and accrued in accordance with the terms of the contract.
Member contributions received as per the Members Agreement are accounted as a revenue in the year they are
received. Surplus contributions can be utilised for future undertakings and new research, development and extension
(R,D&E) programs commenced by AEGIC. This does not operate to prevent agreed contributions being deferred or
continued from year to year within new programs.
Financial Statements

(f) Plant and Equipment

Each class of property, plant and equipment is carried at cost or fair value as indicated, less, where applicable,
accumulated depreciation and any impairment losses.

Australian Taxation Office as a deductible expense for a taxable company. These rates have been adopted on a straight
line basis (computers 3 years, plant and equipment 10 years).
(h) Premises
The Company has access to office and other premises under a non-assignable License to Occupy granted to AEGIC in
accordance with the Members Agreement for the term of the Agreement. The License fee is fully expensed as incurred.
The License can be terminated by AEGIC on six months notice. As such no liability has been raised for the unexpired
term of the License.

Statutory superannuation contributions are made by the Company to a complying fund of the employees choice. If

Provision is made for the Companys liability to the reporting date for employee entitlements arising from services
rendered by employees.
The Company has adopted the national workplace relations system (Fair Work Australia National Employment
Standards [NES]) for its Long Services Leave policy and expense will be brought to account when the employee reaches
seven years of continuous service.

resulting from the purchase of goods and services.
