Conceptualising Scene 2

Sal and James

- Laid back
- Swings arm around lamp post (not something I can put into words)
- Ensure close up is used for bloody thing
- Establishment of familiarity begins from lines well you moved me perhaps comes
off lamppost and starts to circle James whilst speaking

- Behaviour all as a means to establish power in situation. Sal is in control.

- Upon Sal stating 7 years; he walks off camera frame towards the left. James
response in saying 7 years? should follow the direction Sal went after saying his line
- Sal then appears sat to the right of James on ledge saying thats how long Ive been
sober

- In James startle at Sal now being in a completely different place to where he was 2
seconds ago Sal continues line with a flippant carefree attitude. on this coming
- Now James is questioning the whole situation and is very shaken but doesnt want to
indulge the arrogance of Sal and question what exactly is occurring. He bites his
tongue and doesnt question how Sal got there and simply congratulates Sal
refusing to give him the pleasure of any sort of reaction
- Sal looks at James and sees straight through this little ploy and gives a little chuckle
off to himself and then goes onto stand and state whilst taking a step or 2 towards
James youre what Ive been waiting for

- James (still facing in opposite direction ready to walk away) states with an exhale of
deep concern and uneasiness what do you mean as he says this he sighs and
hesitantly turns towards Sal
- Sal is then no longer behind James and responds very calmly now in front of the
direction he was just facing towards (before turning) Ive been waiting for something
worth going off the rails for

- James now leaps back and almost trips over his own feet he is so startled. He can no
longer hide his fear or maintain any sort of composure he once had. and states his
next line in a very jumbled and weak way almost pleading to Sal to not do anything to
him look I dont

- Sals next line despite dismissing Jamess reaction of complete fear still acknowledges
the fear through subtextual reassurance. This is shown through tone of voice which is
friendlier than initially shown and also acknowledging of James fear. He should go to
place both arms on James shoulder to which James steps back and raises 2 hands to
defend himself; to which Sal raises both hands to show he means him no harm and
then slowly places both hands on James to calm him down and also further assert his
dominance of situation through dismissing Jamess reluctance to be touched (all of
this should happen whilst Sal states lines). Eye contact from Sal is to be maintained at
all times. Take time with lines and emphasise down their to almost state down their
is James mind

- A subtle exhale of relief from James should be given upon Sals speaking to show his
fear has subsided and he can essentially trust Sal
- Lines of confusion from James what are you should be a tame outburst showing
himself to be almost all out of energy to be scared anymore and also show hes done
resisting the clear connection and influence Sal has created over him. Hes almost
given up struggling and just wishes for Sal to get to the point in what he wants from
him
- Sals following lines should gage this acceptance from James and then simply state his
wishes for himself and James
- The lines are in fact everything James knows he has been needing and the fact that
its coming from a complete stranger who seems to know him better than he knows
himself causes an inner conflict between better sense and a desperate desire for
understanding companionship. This struggle is made evident through James placing
hands on head and looking at picture of his mother. He should also have a minor
hyperventilation and begin to breath heavily and lean over with hands on knees due to
the complexity of the situation beginning to overwhelm him slightly. James giving in to
going with Sal is representative of him choosing not to fight with himself and be at a
constant battle in his mind. A night out with Sal is him embracing himself for all he is
and accepting should show a burden of struggle being lifted and also show heavy
relief in being able to enjoy this moment.
