Deformation Mech2

Deformation in mechanics refers to the change in shape or size of a body due to applied forces. There are two types of deformation: affine and non-affine. Affine deformations involve a linear transformation like rotation, shear, extension or compression, combined with a rigid body translation. Non-affine deformations occur when the linear transformation depends on position or time. Rigid body motion is a special type of affine deformation that does not change the body's shape or size. Deformation results in a displacement field that relates the deformed and undeformed configurations of a body.
