CAD MANUAL

1. GENERAL
The purpose of this brief CAD Manual is to uniform and assure the quality of the engineering
work in Bassoe Technology AutoCAD environment. It is also meant to make the everyday work in
AutoCAD easier.

2. CREATING NEW DRAWING

When creating a new drawing from scratch, you shall use one of Bassoe Technologys discipline
specific drawing templates. These templates are located central on the server;
S:\9300_IT\CAD\Templates, and are of dwt-format. The standard templates are made in scale 1:1
to fit to an A1 paper, which is currently the standard drawing paper size at Bassoe Technology.
Each template file contains a set of respective disciplines standard layers. Please see layers below.

3. STANDARD PEN ASSIGNMENT AND PEN COLORS

Bassoe Technology has chosen seven different line weights that shall be used when drawing in
AutoCAD. Line weights are controlled by which color is used in lines and objects; grey, red,
yellow, green, cyan, blue or magenta. Use of other, user defined colors is prohibited, and any such
color will be set to a Line weight of 0.10 mm. The standard Plot Style Table is included in the Plot
Settings in the template file. Line weight for respective color, see below.

Color Line weight in A3 Line weight in A1

Grey (Color 8) 0.05 mm 0.10 mm

Red (Color 1) 0.09 mm 0.18 mm

Yellow (Color 2) 0.13 mm 0.25 mm

Green (Color 3) 0.18 mm 0.35 mm

Cyan (Color 4) 0.25 mm 0.50 mm

Blue (Color 5) 0.35 mm 0.70 mm

Magenta (Color 6) 0.50 mm 1.00 mm

4. STANDARD LAYERS
Bassoe Technology has a number of sets with standard layers that shall be used by anyone drawing
arrangement- or structural drawings in Bassoe Technologys AutoCAD environment. Note that
system drawings and diagrams shall use other sets of standard layers, set up by the discipline CAD
administrator. The arrangement standard layers are object based related to different parts of a ship
or rig. These layers are categorized so it can be easily turned on or off, depending of if they are
going to be shown in the General Arrangement or not. The layers will have a default color;
however the user is allowed to use any of the standard colors in any of the layers. For a complete
list of the standard arrangement layers, please see Appendix 1 Standard Arrangement Layers.
The Structural layers are object based by brackets, stiffeners, web, bulkheads etc. These layers are
categorized by visibility. For a complete list of the structural standard layers, please see
Appendix 2 Standard Structural Layers

5. STANDARD LINE TYPES

When working with arrangement drawings, the user shall use standard line types, set up by Bassoe
Technology as shown below.
Continuous line used for most contours and outlines etc.
Hidden line used for hidden contours.
Center line used where the centre of an object needs to be shown.
Phantom line to be used for showing objects placed above the current plane. If the user
for example currently drawing the main deck and needs to show a platform placed above
main deck.
Dash-dotted line used for showing objects placed below the current plane.

The standard layers will have a default continuous line type; however the user is free to use any of
the standard line types with any of the standard colors on the standard layers.

6. STANDARD TEXT AND TEXT HEIGHT

Standard font for text in drawings is romans. Any text in arrangement drawings (Except the text in
the drawing header) should comply with the standard heights and colors listed below. Note that the
heights listed here is for a drawing in scale 1:1. When the drawing is scaled, the text height needs
to be scaled equally.

Red text (line weight 0.18) Text height 1.8

Yellow text (line weight 0.25) Text height 2.5
Green text (line weight 0.35) Text height 3.5
Cyan text (line weight 0.50) Text height 5.0
Blue text (line weight 0.70) Text height 7.0

7. SCALING DRAWINGS
When scaling drawings the user should scale the drawing frame to fit the drawn arrangement. The
drawing frame shall be scaled from the insertion point of the frame, set in coordinates 0,0,0.
Accepted scales are 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:25, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200, 1:250 or
1:400. When scaling the drawing frame the user should also set the Line type
scale (LTSCALE) and Dimension scale (DIMSCALE) to fit the chosen scale.

8. PRINTING DRAWINGS
A page setup is included in the Bassoe Technology template file BassTech_Template_A1.dwt. This
page setup is including Plot style table, configured for printing in A3 format since this is the
largest format available in the office at the moment.
9. AUTOMATION OF STANDARD FUNCTIONS
An automation of the Bassoe Technology AutoCAD environment is currently in work, and will be
implemented during spring 2008. This will help the user to work in a standardized way when
printing, scaling etc. However, until this automation is launched all users shall work accordingly to
this CAD manual.

10. SETTING UP DEFAULT TEMPLATES

In order to get the right drawing templates and plot style tables into your AutoCAD, until the
automation of our standard functions is in place, you are required to do some adjustments of file
paths in AutoCAD. To set Bassoe Technologys arrangement or structural drawing template files
as default template in AutoCAD, enter the Tools menu and choose Options. Under the Files
tab choose Template Settings. Choose Drawing Template File Location and browse to
S:\9300_IT\CAD\Templates. Then choose Default template File Name for QNEW and browse
to s:\9300_it\cad\templates\basstech_template_a1.dwt or
s:\9300_it\cad\templates\BassTech_Struct_Template_A1.dwt to set arrangement- or structural
drawing template as your default template to create drawings from. Please see picture below.
11. SETTING UP DEFAULT PLOT STYLE TABLES
In order to get the line weights when you plot, you should set up a search path for Bassoe
Technologys Plot Style Tables. Enter the Tools menu and choose Options. Under the Files tab
choose Printer Support File Path, and then choose Plot Style Table Search Path. Browse to
S:\9300_IT\CAD\Templates\Plot styles, where all of Bassoe Technologys Plot Style Tables are
situated. Here you will find Plot Style Tables for printing drawings in both A1 and A3 paper sizes.
