English 12 Metacognition: thinking about thinking (we consciously decide to think about what our brain is doing) Metacognitive strategy: a strategy used Metacognition to develop our metacognition Making connections: a metacognitive strategy used to develop our ability to comprehend what we read, and to train our brains to make faster connections We make 3 specific types of connections as we read Text to - self Making Text to world Connections Text to text (or media) These are categories, and many types of connections may fit more than one category Step 1: Find 3 quotes from The Kite Runner ch. 6 to which you can make authentic connections Step 2: Display these quotes on a large piece of paper Assignment Step 3: Make connections, using some type of organization/ categorization (filling the paper) You should have at least 3 of each type of connection You may find that one quote has more connections than another Add a question you could ask of each quote For my connections, I used the following organization: Blue: text to world I called these world connections Organization Red: questions Purple: text to text/media I specified which connection (movie, tv, book) Green: text to self connections I called these personal connections
