LESSON OUTLINE

Lesson plan of Comparative and Superlative:

This lesson plan is for my classmates, so I need to take in account their English level and
their personality, because We as a teachers have responsibilities with learning process of
students, so we must to prepare our class according their necessities.

Well, this is my lesson plan:

First, I want to start with this good sentence in where is using the topic which I
am going to explain: Some people make your laugh a little older, your smile a
little brighter and your life a little better.

Then, I motivate my students with the warm up: I ask my students stand up and
look for a classmate and stay in front of him or her; the objective is find
differences and similarities between them in their physical appearance: as clothes,
skin color, eye color, hair, height, etc. I going to put an alarm clock with 10
minutes for this activity, after this one, if one of these groups want to say 6 or
more differences and similarities in him/her classmate win a prize. (12 minutes
for this activity).

Second, I going to teach the theory about Comparatives and Superlatives. I Need
to start with the definition of an Adjective(this is a review):

What is an adjective?

Adjectives describe nouns by giving some information about an objects size,

shape, age, color, origin or material.

After, I will explain the use of the Comparatives and Superlatives:

Adjectives are very helpful when you need compare people, animal or things, so
you need to use an especial type of adjectives which are called: Comparatives and
Superlatives adjectives. Comparative is the name for the grammar used when
comparing two things. The two basic ways to compare are using as... as or than.

For example:

as as

This book is not as exciting as the last one.

than

This computer is better than that one.

I am going to continue with my exposition with the rest of the concepts and rules
about this topic:

When comparing with as... as, the adjective does not change.

When comparing with than, however, some changes are necessary, depending on
the number of syllables the adjective has:

1-syllable adjectives: add -er to the adjective

2-syllable adjectives ending in -y: change the -y to ier

Adjectives with 3 or more syllables: use more with the unchanged adjective.

In that moment I Make clear each of groups of adjectives mentioned before.

SYLLABLE ADJECTIVES: add -er to the adjective.

Example: My brother is much taller than me.

Note: If the word ends: consonant-vowel-consonant, then the last consonant is

usually doubled in the comparative.

Examples: big bigger fat-fatter hot-hotter.

2-SYLLABLE ADJECTIVES ENDING IN -Y: change the -y to ier.

Lesson plan by Stephanie Arroyave Gil.

Example: Sara is happier than her sister.

OTHER 2-SYLLABLE ADJECTIVES: use more with the unchanged

adjective.

Examples:

The shops are always more crowded just before Christmas.

My sister is more careful with her writing than my brother.

Note: The comparative of some shorter 2-syllable adjectives can be formed

with -er.

Examples: simple-simpler,

clever-cleverer,

Narrow-narrower.

ADJECTIVES WITH 3 OR MORE SYLLABLES:

Use more with the unchanged adjective.

Examples:

Russian grammar is more difficult than English grammar.

My sister is much more intelligent than me.

(For all explanation 20 minutes).

Now, I am going to explain about Superlatives Adjectives, I will bring a

workshop about it.

Watch this video, which is a song called: The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, by
Prince. The next sentences are in the song (implicitly). The highlighted words are
superlative adjectives, you are going to use those words to do other sentences. Take
into account the meaning of the words in each sentence.

Could you be the most beautiful girl in the world?

Could you be the best girl in the world?

Lesson plan by Stephanie Arroyave Gil.

Could you be the youngest girl in the world?

Third, I will put a song full of the examples about comparatives and superlatives
with the objective the students fills the gaps for learn and memorize the spelling
and understand the use in context of the topic.(6 minutes for this activity)

Later this one, I will check the answer of the students and show the complete
song and give again a gift for this activity to person will finish first.

Fourth, I will show a chart with Irregular adjectives and will say something about
the Colors as a Comparative and Superlatives. Like other adjectives, colors
become comparative and superlative with the suffixes -er and est, but some
colors are irregular adjectives.

This is the chart:

More later, I will set a song where the student can find a summary about the rules
and all about Comparatives and Superlatives:

Finally, I will give the workshop for home and answer for questions or doubts in
the students.

ASSIGNMENT:
In the warm up the students can remember and learn new adjectives and
vocabulary and will be focus in the topic and in the class.
In Class the students have to fill a song when they can find many Comparative
and Superlative adjectives.
The workshop for home is about Animals and do comparisons between of them.

NOTES:
The extra material in case of more time for do the class is: the song where the
student can find a summary about the rules and all about Comparatives and
Superlatives.
Lesson plan by Stephanie Arroyave Gil.

The times between of activities and explanation depends of the class and their
participation or doubts, I set an estimated time for each part of the class.

METHODS AND SKILLS DEVELOPED:

In the first part of the class, I will use the Task-Based Language Learning method
for the learners to complete a task about the previous knowledge they have in the
topic. In the explanation part, I will use The direct Method to explicate the topic
entirely in the target language. The students will be not allowed to use their
mother tongue, they have to participate in the class speaking in English. In the
final part of the class, I will use the Suggestopedia Method applying music to
introduce new concepts and words to make students learn without mental blocks.
In conclusion, I will usage different strategies taking into consideration the
different methods that can be used to have a successful lesson.
The main skill that will be developed is: listening, but this lesson could help the
students improve other communicative competences like writing and reading.

EVALUATION
The students performance will be assessed according to the next criteria, that is going to
be based on formative assessment.
1. Cognitive aspect; memorize and repeat the new vocabulary, the words of the songs and
the comparative and superlative's structure and rules.
2.Affective aspect; it will be evaluated in the process of teaching and learning;
3. Psychomotor aspect; it will be evaluated in the process of teaching and learning.
4. The students feedback about your their performance during the class and learning
process inside the classroom and outside of the classroom.

TEACHER REFLECTION
At the end of the lesson students will experience the power of an excellent class, which
was prepared through lesson plan. It is a pedagogical tool that allows them to learn

effectively English as foreign language taking into account some aspects such as:
acquiring wider vocabulary and a more fluent speech, improving communicative
competences like listening, writing and reading, and of course, it gives students other
possibilities to discover and develop new abilities that can be used later in their daily life.
I hope the students will enjoy this lesson.
