Reflection in Prelim

In this term, the student has learned about: 1) The key components and functions of boilers, including how fuel is burned to produce high pressure steam to power machinery. 2) The two main types of boilers - water tube and fire tube - and the differences between them, such as water tube producing superheated steam while fire tube produces saturated steam. 3) Important boiler valves like safety valves, relief valves, and main steam stop valves and their purposes in regulating pressure and steam flow. 4) Potential boiler failures like foaming from contaminants or carry-over of contaminants with the steam.

Reflection in Prelim

In this term I've learned about the boiler which is water or fluid was being heated to produced steam

that supplies other machineries. The main job of a boiler is to make high pressure steam. The feed water supplied

to the boiler drum utilizes the heat of the energy released by burning the fuel. This energy of the burning fuel is

stored in the form of steam with high temperature and pressure. The fuel is burnt in a combustion chamber inside

the boiler. And there are two types of the boiler, Water tube and Fire tube. The diffrence between water tube and

fire tube is water tube is a superheated steam or dry steam while fire tube is saturated or wet steam. The

advantage of water tube is can produce more steam than fire tube. While the advantage of fire tube it is prone to

explosion than water tube. The fire tube is ralatively inexpensive than water tube, and water tube has a big space

than fire tube which is compact in size. I've also learned in this term is the valves that supports the boiler, just like

safety valve the release exessesive pressure which protects the boiler from over pressurisation. The other is they

called it relief valve which is also release pressure relieved by allowing the pressurised fluid to flow from an

auxiliary passage out of the system. And the main steam stop valve which regulates the flow of the steam inside

the boiler. I've also learned about the boiler failure just like having bubbles in the boiler it is called foaming due to

contaminants of fluid or oil. The other failure is the carry- over which any contaminant that leaves the boiler with

the steam. It can be in a solid, liquid, or vapor form. The most common form of carryover is boiler water droplets

that contain dissolved and suspended solids. This helps the boiler to remove small amount of oil contamination if it

arises, by blow down this is called boiler coagulant. In this term I' am thankful that our professor discussed it

properly. The meaning of the boiler and how it was being used in a vessel, the difference of a water tube and a fire

tube, the valves that supports the boiler and the failure if something happens in the boiler.
Reflection in Midterm

In this term I've learned about the boiler mountings and fittings. In all of this topics
that we have been discussed is really important to us because it helps us more knowledgeable if we are
in board ship. The boiler mountings has a minimum requirements, one pressure gauge, one steam stop
valve, two water gauge two independent feed check, one salinometer valve, one low fuel shut off
device and alarm, two safety valves and one blow down scum valve.
