Lesson Plan 1 Week 3
Topic: Energy and Practical Writing
Class: Year 8.0 When/Where: Line 4/ 2SC09 Lesson Prepared by: Adam Biggs
What are the students going to learn?
Students will go through slides 8-12 of the powerpoint as well as go through marking their homework from last week. At this point students should have completed the unit review 5.2 however this does not appear to have been done. I will give students the opportunity to tell me which questions they had trouble with. Once we have gone through the solutions we will then go through the second energy quiz which they should have done for homework. After the PowerPoint slides the students will then be asked to go through the third energy quiz. Any left over time will be used to complete the unit 5.2 questions. Resources: - White board - Whiteboard markers - HDMI adaptor - Smart board - Practical guide - All kids should have laptops - Textbooks - Portable mouse - Textbook question answers - Laptop Assessment/ Feedback for students In this lesson my method of assessment will be to give students quizzes on the topics we cover. The lesson will also have a component where we go through answers to the questions students did for homework the week before. There will be limited talking and students will be asked to do questions from the next unit review if there is any extra time in the lesson outside what I have planned. Students will be assessed on their knowledge of energy changes and energy transformations as well as input and output energy. This is the beginnings of the topic of energy efficiency. Lesson Outline Introducing the lesson (First 5 Minutes) - To begin the lesson I will arrive early and have all of my stationary ready and my laptop hooked up to the projector ready to start the lesson. I will have instructions on the board and an outline of what I would like to get through during the lesson. The outline will be written as such: 1. Laptops open, open up your homework from last week Unit 5.1. 2. We will be going through the answers to any questions you had trouble with, if students dont have any questions that they found hard I will go through questions I believe may be hard for you. 3. Do Energy transfer quiz if you havent already completed it. If you have you will have time to ask me questions about your assignment and get some feedback on your work that you have completed. 4. PowerPoint Slides 8-12 5. Do energy Changes Quiz 6. Any extra time will be spent doing Unit 5.2 Commencing the Lesson (Following 25 minutes) - As we start to progress through questions that students had trouble with I will work through the answers. This should be done ideally in the first 20 minutes. The remaining 5 minutes of this segment should be used to complete the first quiz. If these tasks take any longer this is also fine. Middle of the Lesson (30 Minutes) - Students will next be asked to close their laptops unless they are taking notes on the topic in which case they will be allowed to have their laptops open. While I am talking about the topic students should be taking notes as once we have finished the 5 slides they will then proceed to the next quiz. There is a small activity amongst the PowerPoint that students will be asked to complete to break up my talking a little. Any left over time in the lesson or from this segment should be used to complete unit review 5.2 questions. Remainder of the lesson (15 minutes) - For the remainder of the lesson I will be walking around the classroom aiding people in answering the questions where I can (assuming they actually need the help, students should be able to answer the questions by reading the text book). End of the lesson (5 minutes) - The final 5 minutes will be spent reiterating what they are expected to have complete for the remainder of the next week and a half. This includes the following: 1. Energy Efficiency Assignment (Due Tomorrow) 2. Those who are doing an Oral will have be presenting tomorrow 3. Bouncing Ball Practical Due Next Week on Wednesday. 4. Unit 5.2 Review Questions Due Next Monday. (Should have been done this week)
