Philosophy Statement

Analisa Shinn developed a personal philosophy of learning statement for a university that strives to provide an appropriate education for all levels of learners in a challenging yet encouraging environment. The statement emphasizes fostering individual responsibility for learning and empowering each student to reach their full potential. It touches on including diverse learners and tailoring education to individual student needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING STATEMENT 2

In contemplating the characteristics of a strong mission statement, I have developed the

following statement related to the full inclusion of diverse learners in a regular classroom setting.

We strive to provide all levels of learners with an appropriate education in a challenging yet

encouraging environment, while fostering individual responsibility for learning, and empowering

each student to reach his or her full potential.

The first phrase touches on the inclusion of diverse learners by mentioning all levels of

learners. I chose to use the phrase an appropriate education to indicate that education should

not be one size fits all, but should instead be tailored to the needs of each individual student. I

believe the challenging yet encouraging environment is important to demonstrate the notion

that, while we will challenge our students in order to help them grow, we will do so in an

environment that will keep students comfortable, happy, and willing to learn. Fostering

individual responsibility for learning is also necessary to show that student autonomy is

encouraged, which I believe directly relates to empowering students to reach their full potential.
