(1) The probability that a customer waits more than 10 minutes is 0.135 based on the exponential probability density function given. (2) If the customer goes to the bank twice next month, the probability that the customer leaves without being served once (X=1) is calculated. There are four possible outcomes for the two visits. The probability is found to be 0.23355. (3) In summary, for a customer that goes to the bank twice, the probability they will leave once without being served due to a wait over 10 minutes is 0.23355.

3.4.5. The length of time, Y, that a customer spends in line at a bank tellers window before being served is

described by the exponential pdf f Y ( y )=0.2 e0.2 y , y0 .

(a) What is the probability that a customer will wait more than ten minutes?
(b) Suppose the customer will leave if the wait is more than ten minutes. Assume that the customer goes
to the bank twice next month. Let the random variable X be the number of times the customer leaves

without being served. Calculate p X (1) .

Penyelesaian.
Diketahui: 0.2 y
probability density function : f Y ( y )=0.2 e , y0

asumsinya : Y adalah waktu tunggu pelanggan dalam antrian sebelum dilayani (dalam menit)
Ditanya: P(Y 10)
(a).

(b).
p X ( X =1 ) , jika X = frekuensi pelanggan menunggu 10 menit dan pelanggan

datang ke bank dua kali.

Solusi:

(a). P (Y 10 )= 0.2 e0.2 y dy

10

e0.2 y
10 {
e0.2 () (e0.2 (10 ) )

0 (e2 )

e2=0.135

Jadi, kemungkinan pelanggan menunggu 10 menit adalah 0.135.

Hari I
Hari II
P T

P PP PT
T TP TT
Karena kejadian di hari I dan hari II adalah independen (kejadian di hari I tidak akan

mempengaruhi kejadian di hari II), dan probabilitas P = P(P)=

P (Y 10 )=0.135 , maka :

2
P( PP) = P( P) P (P) = 0.135 = 0.018225

P( PT )= P( P) P (T ) = 0.135 ( 10.135 ) = 0.116775

P(TP) = P(T ) P( P) = ( 10.135 ) 0.135 = 0. 116775

P(TT ) = P(T ) P(T ) = ( 10.135 )2 = 0.748225

Jumlah 1.000000
Karena X =1 dipenuhi oleh kejadian PT dan TP, maka
p X ( X =1 )=P ( PT ) P ( TP )=P ( PT ) + P ( TP )=0.116775+ 0.116775=0.23355
