Pre-Paging (Standard & Non-Standard - Customized by Huawei - ) and The Related Configuration in Case of Ms Unreachable or Power Off

This technical paper discusses pre-paging configuration in Huawei's MSOFTX3000 V100R006C05B025 system. It describes the differences between standard and non-standard ("customized by Huawei") pre-paging. For non-standard pre-paging, parameters need to be set in P140, P141, P110 and P181 to enable pre-paging for a percentage of subscribers, send an "absent subscriber" cause if unreachable, and include additional causes in responses. Making these configurations allows pre-paging to work properly and save network resources when subscribers are unreachable.

Pre-paging (standard & non-standard customized by Huawei)

and the related configuration in case of Ms unreachable or Power
off
Compatible with MSOFTX3000 V100R006C05B025

Ordinary paging

For ordinary pre-paging no additional configuration to distinguish between IMSI detached

& unreachable Callee as shown below:

If subscriber MS is power off then PRN res will carry IMSI detached as below, there is no
need for MSCb to send paging as VLRb already has the dynamic information about the
callee (IMSI detached)

if subscriber is unreachable, hence VLRb does not know whither MSb reachable or not so
that paging signal has to be sent, and in case of paging with no response MSC will send
release message with cause (no user responding)

Pre-paging
For standard pre-paging
SET MAPACCFG: ISSPTPRPG=YES; // support pre-paging

Hence all dynamic subscribers defined in VLRb will follow the pre-paging procedure,
and if unreachable then System failure will be reported as a release cause by default,
for more enhancements you may apply the Huawei customized pre-paging, as
following:

For non-standard pre-paging (customized by Huawei)

1- SET MAPACCFG: ISSPTPRPG=NO; // do not support standard pre-paging

Bi Bit 4 (SWITCH1_PREPAGING)
t
Description Bit 4 determines whether to originate the pre-paging request when the
called office does not perform pre-paging based on the MAP Function
Configuration table and the pre-paging flag in the routing message of the
HLR (the standard pre-paging defined in the 3GPP) during the flow of
obtaining the roaming number.
=0: to determine whether to originate the pre-paging request based on the
MAP Function Configuration table and the pre-paging flag
=1: to originate the pre-paging request when the called office does not
perform pre-paging based on the MAP Function Configuration table and
the pre-paging flag in the routing message of the HLR (the ratio of pre-
paging is determined by P141)
The default value is 0.
Application When all the subscribers in the local office must be pre-paged, set bit 4 to
Scenario 1. Pre-paging can save network resources when the callee is unreachable.

Bits 6-0 (VLR_PREPAGE_RATIO_CTR)

Descriptio Bits 60 (from left to right) determine the ratio of subscribers who are pre-
n paged.
=0000000: The ratio of pre-paged subscribers is 0%.
=0000001: The ratio of pre-paged subscribers is 1%.
=0110010: The ratio of pre-paged subscribers is 50%.
= 1100100: The ratio of pre-paged subscribers is 100%.
The default value is 0. (Value range: 0100)
The value greater than 100 is taken as 100. The basic idea of pre-paging
algorithm is to compare the ratio of the pre-paging configured currently with
the internal variable in VLR divided by 100. If the result is smaller than the
pre-paging ratio, the pre-paging is allowed. Otherwise, the pre-paging is
prohibited. The variable in the VLR is accumulated every time after the pre-
paging is performed, and the initial value is random. You can check the current
value of the intra-VLR variable by using related debugging commands.
Applicati Bits 6-0 cannot be used to control the ratio of pre-paged subscribers during the
on pre-paging of 3G standards. Therefore, set bit 4 of P140 to 0 in the case of the
Scenario pre-paging of 3G standards. The HLR may send the PRN that does not contain
the pre-paging flag to the MSC. To ensure the pre-paging request can be
originated normally in this case, set P141 to 0064 (that is, not to restrict the
ratio of the pre-paged subscribers).

problem apply step 5.

Bit 1 (IF_SEND_NOPAGERESPONSE_TO_HLR)
Description Bit 1 determines whether to contain the specific cause value
noPageResponse or imsiDetach in the cause value absent subscriber
in the Provide Roaming Number Response message sent from the MSC
B to the HLR when the PRN pre-paging (customized by Huawei) is not
responded.
= 0: not to contain the specific cause value noPageResponse or
imsiDetach in the cause value absent subscriber in the Provide
Roaming Number Response message sent from the MSC B to the HLR
= 1: to contain the specific cause value noPageResponse
or imsiDetach in the cause value absent subscriber in the
Provide Roaming Number Response message sent from
the MSC B to the HLR
The default value is 0.
Application When the pre-paging function customized by Huawei is enabled, and
Scenario paging subscribers fails, bit 1 determines whether to contain the cause
value noPageResponse or imsiDetach besides absent subscriber in
the Provide Roaming Number Response message sent from the MSC B
to the HLR.

Related Bit 1 is valid when the following conditions are fulfilled:

Paramet Bit 4 of P140 is set to 1 to enable the pre-paging function (customized
er by Huawei) in the VLR.
Bits 0-6 of P141 (VLR Prepage Ratio) is set to a proper value.
Support pre-paging is set to No by running SET MAPACCFG.
Bit 1 of P110 is set to 1.
