World Player of the Year? Will it be Lionel Messi?
Lionel Messi was born in Argentina in 1987 and he started playing
football at a very young age. His father was a football coach and
Messi played for his fathers team at the age of five. Three years later,
Messi moved to a different team because he was very talented and
needed a better club. But Messi had a terrible problem. He was very
short for his age smaller than a normal boy. His doctors wanted to
give him special medicine, but his parents didnt have enough money.
Fortunately, someone from a Spanish team, FC Barcelona, saw Messi
play. The man was impressed and wanted Messi to move to Barcelona
and play football there. The Spanish team agreed to pay for Messis
medicine, too. So Messi and his family moved to Spain. Lionel Messi
was only 13 years old.
Today, Messi still plays for Barcelona and he plays for the
Argentinian national team. He hopes to play in the Olympics, too.
Hes famous because hes an amazing player and he scores so many
goals. If Messi continues to play well, perhaps he will be more
famous than Diego Maradona one day.
