mayor, Jaime Lerner, along with the council, began developing the world-famous system in
1971.
Mr. Lerner had grown up in Curitiba and knew that the street was an important part of city life
for the residents. He made many of the street into pedestrian areas, with no access for cars. The
council put in flowers, lights and kiosks where people could sell food and other products. To
encourage shoppers to use the new areas, the mayor gave away free paper so that local children
could paint 150 km of cycle lanes, which follow old river valleys and railway tracks around the

Last Friday my friend Sam game me one of his books to help with a project i was doing. On
Saturday afternoon, i was at home alone. I was doing my project and looking after my new
kitten when the phone rang. It was Sam. He said that he had tickets for a pop concert that
evening. He invited me to go with him. He also asked me to bring his book as he needed it for
his projject. I finished my work, and went to take a shower. I left the kitten in work in my
bedroom as he slept.
When i finished, i went back to my bedroom and couldnt believe my eyes! My beatiful project

paper was from Sams book! When i told Sam about it, he wasnt very pleased with the kitten.

Last week i visited the Bluewer shopping center in Kent, England. It was an amazing experience
because its the biggest shopping center in the country. You can find almost everything under one
roof, including 320 stores, 50 restaurants and cafes, a cinema, a creche and a park. The only
problem at Blue water is making a choice. Is it better to do your shopping or to have some fun? It
is a good day out, unless you have a problem with crowds.
I arrived at 9 a.m. so that i could do my shopping before it got too busy. There are three
departement stores and many fashion shops. I was looking for music and books not clothes, so i
went to Virgin and i bought some greats CDs. I also looked round several bookshops, but i
couldnt find the book i wanted. After that i needed a rest.

Two teens were in trouble after making fools of the police. last Saturday we were a bit
bored, so we decided to play a trick on the police, said Gary Game, 15, one of the two
youngsters. So , we got this life-sized black panther that belongs to my sister. Its a stuffed toy,
but it looks quete real.
Anyway, we put it near the treesnat the back of the park. Once it was there, we hid in the
bushes. Then, we phoned the police and told them that there was a panther in the park. About ten
minutes later, we heard a sirene and then police cars turned up. Four police officers got out and
started pointing at the panther. They obviously thought it was real panther because they kept
their distance. Twou of them had guns and another two were watching it through binoculars,
Game added.
The elite armed unit spent nearly an hour watching the beast- only to dicover it was just a
life-sized cuddly toy. We are not amuzed, said police spokesperson Nigel Fall. We saw the
creature and identified it as black panther. But after about an hour , my officers began to approach
it. In our defence, from a distance it really looked like a live animal, the spokesperson added.
