1. Description of the Project site


The location of the project site as well the purpose of building needs to be specified
so as to take in to consideration site related factors in the design.

2. Scope of the project

The provision of this project is to analyze and design sub and super structural
design, as well as preparing the detailing of structural, foundation, and
retaining wall for buildings minimum 6 stories with basement (that is B+G+4
or more than B+G+4) Mixed Use building.

The design procedures follow the following steps:-

Analysis of the super structure loads of the given project

Deign of super structure (like beam, column and stair, slab and roof) with
detailing and design of sub structure or type of footing (like isolating footing,
combined footing, mat foundation and Pile foundation), and retaining wall
which is appropriate for the given project.

Producing working drawings, including all important detailing.

Preparing analysis and design report showing clearly flow of path to get
the scope of the project

3. Objective of the project

To examine the integrated techniques used to design of super structure and


sub structure components with detailing of given Mixed Use building project.

Understanding and applying the design principles and considerations to


satisfy the major and other requirements of the design of the specific project.

Design super structure, sub structure and retaining wall as per the stipulations
of ES EN 1991, 2015 to ES EN 1998, 2015 code and other standard
codes.

4. Method of design

The method of the design is based on limit state concept (using Ethiopian Building
code of standards, ES EN 1991, 2015, ES EN 1992, 2015, ES EN 1997, 2015, and
ES EN 1998, 2015); the foundation shall be designed to withstand safely all loads
liable to act on it throughout its life. It shall also satisfy the serviceability
requirements, such as limitations on settlement and cracking. The acceptable limit for
the safety and serviceability requirements before flair occurs. The aim of design is
to achieve acceptable probabilities that the sub and super structure will not became
unfit for the use for which it is intended, that is it will not reach a limit state.

6. Software Requirement
ETABS/SAP 2000 and other software appropriate for analysis of the given project
are used. Software is used for analysis and design is manually.

7. Deliverables

Load analysis on excel sheet


ETABS/ SAP Analysis out puts
Alternative design calculation
Structural detailing of all components at least one representing others
Bill of quantity
Analysis and Design Report including the relevant appendices. Two hard
copies of the report and soft copy of all deliverables on an electronic CD.
Printout of recommended design drawings which is done on Auto Cad

8. Mode of Assessment

Based on education policy of the University, there will be a continuous assessment


throughout the project duration. All the group members are advised to participate
actively in the group work and discharge their individual responsibilities.
