Collaborative Assignment Sheet Mod 3

This document discusses two web tools, Storybird and Popplet, that can be used to support collaborative learning. For Storybird, the document provides instructions on how to use the tool to create longform books, picture books, or poems and collaborate with other users. It also provides examples of how Storybird could be used for specific PK-12 standards, noting both positives like creative expression options and negatives like limited collaboration abilities. For Popplet, the document similarly outlines how to use the tool to create and share "popplets" or collections of content, and provides PK-12 lesson integration ideas and a discussion of the tool's benefits and challenges.

Ideas for how the -SOL 2.14 (The student will use available technology for reading and writing)
tool can be used in This is a broad SOL standard, but it allows students to be more creative and use
PK-12 their imagination. I would ask the students to partner up or get into a group of
three and simply come up with a story. I will give them a general topic, but they
can go anywhere from that. To ease things, they will construct two pre-writes. A
brain storm and a rough draft that they can work on together and then from there
I will edit and give feedback then they can all jump on Storybird and create their
story. If laptops are in available at the school they will be each logged on to their
own computer working on the story, but they will be sitting in groups so that they
can talk about what they are doing as they go.
-SOL 4.7 (i) (The student will write cohesively for a variety of purposes Utilize
elements of style, including word choice and sentence variation) Here, I would
have students create a free verse poem with no world limit. They will use a
single image and their poem needs to somewhat relate to the image. Storybird
pre-loads words and the student can pick from them. If they are looking for a
different word to use they can click the refresh button in the bottom corner to get
different words. For this activity, the collaborative technique will be peer-
review(editing). They will invite one collaborator and the collaborator will edit and
then give suggestions.
-SOL DE.1 (f) (The student will demonstrate an understanding of Virginia traffic
laws, licensing procedures and other responsibilities associated with the driving
privilege. responsibilities at a crash scene.) Students will use Storybird to
make a picture book to tell a story/ scenario of either what can go wrong at a
crash scene or what to do at a crash scene. It should be detailed and done with
a partner. After, it will be presented to the class.
