Harmonising a single note...

Imagine the note C as different degrees of many different chords...

* This 'top down' way of thinking is great for expanding your harmonic awareness.
* If you can sing down from these different points it will hugely expand your aural ability.
* It's a fantastic compositional tool:
- for harmonising melodies
- for deriving harmonic relations that are melody-driven...

These are just some of the possibilities, now go explore for yourself!
Once you get more into inversions and polychords there are many more interesting options...
