Algebra I

Mrs. Misbach
[email protected]

Welcome to Algebra I! In this course, we will explore some of the mathematical

concepts that scientists, engineers, designers, economists, business owners,
and many others rely on in the real world. We will learn about linear, quadratic,
exponential, and other types of functions as well as systems of equations,
inequalities, graphing and modeling, sequences, and so much more. More
importantly, however, we will practice thinking critically and reasoning logically to
solve problems and deepen our understanding of how the world works.

Class Rules/Expectations:
Come to classthis means ON TIME.
Be preparedthis means having all materials and completed homework,
ready to begin learning the moment class starts.
Put away your phonesif its an emergency, take it into the hall.
Otherwise, it can wait.
Be respectfulof your peers, your teacher, and your school.
Share your thoughtsmath is about THINKING, not memorizing.
NO cheating, bullying, or profanity will be tolerated.
Other rules as stated in the school/district handbook.

Materials needed:
Notebook
Folder for handouts and homework
Textbook
Pencils (and good erasersmistakes are to be expected )

Grade Scale/Distribution:
90% - 100% = A o Homework40%
80% - 89% = B o Tests & Quizzes30%
70% - 79% = C o Final Exam20%

Late Work Policy:
Homework is graded upon completion, unless otherwise specified. Late or
incomplete assignments will be worth 50% of the original points possible
up to one week after the due date. After this point, no late work will be
accepted.

If you are absent/tardy:

There will be a folder for your class period where you can pick up any
handouts or notes that you missed, as well as a calendar detailing what
homework was assigned and/or due.
I will do my best to keep the calendar up-to-date and have materials ready
a week in advance, so if you know you will be absent on a given day, you
have the opportunity to complete work ahead of time. However, for
excused absences, the student has up to the number of days absent to
turn in assignments.

Tutoring:
I will be available for tutoring most days before and after school and during
lunch. I want to help you succeed. However, it is up to you to seek extra
help if you want or need it.

Contact Information:
If you or your parents/guardians have any questions or concerns, please
feel free to email me at. I will also be keeping the class webpage up-to-
date with all assignments and announcements, and a copy of this
syllabus; so many questions may be answered there.

I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and making this a
fantastic year of Algebra I!
