Local (Plate) Buckling of Flange: Flexural Members - Dr. Seshu Adluri
Flexural members can experience two types of buckling: local plate buckling of the flange or web, where a portion of the plate buckles out of plane; or global buckling of the entire cross section. Local buckling typically occurs at lower stresses than global buckling and reduces the strength of the member. This presentation discusses the mechanics of local buckling in the flanges and webs of flexural members.
