Reflection Paper

The document is a reflection paper for a Psychology 1010 class. It discusses how Psychology 1010 was the student's favorite class of the semester. It taught them many concepts about human behavior, the body, and mind. The student also took Sociology 1010 at the same time, which helped reinforce some of the psychological concepts discussed, like Milgram and Asch's studies. Taking the two classes together allowed the student to learn how psychologists and sociologists interpret similar studies differently. This experience confirmed the student's decision to major in psychology.

Reflection Paper 2

Psychology 1010 has been an amazing class that has taught me many

concepts about human behaviors, the body, and the mind. In fact,

psychology 1010 has been my favorite course this semester, and also my

favorite class so far that I have taken at Salt Lake Community College

(SLCC).

Prior to this class, I have taken one psychology class in which I took my

sophomore year of High School. The psych class I took definitely did not go

into as much depth as this class did, but I did learn some general concepts

that gave me a good starting point for this class. In High School, I remember

discussing dreams and personality types (red, blue, white, yellow) quite

heavily, which was not a main topic in my Psych 1010 class. But I also

learned a lot about Pavlov and his ideas of classical conditioning and I also

learned briefly about the Little Albert study, and the Bobo Doll study. We

talked about the types of learning a lot in my Psychology 1010 class, so this

was beneficial to me in my course this semester.

Another interesting class I took this semester was Sociology 1010. I

decided to take psychology and sociology at the same time, therefore, I

could compare the two and see which one I liked better. Within the first

month or so I decided that I was more interested in psychology. I liked the

fact that psychologists study the individuals behavior, whereas sociologists

study a certain group of people and their behavior. I also took more interest

in the learning of the brain vs. the learning of cultural groups.

Taking psychology and sociology during the same semester was

surprisingly helpful. In some cases, I would learn about a concept/study in

one class, and then talk about it in the other class. This was nice because I

would already be familiar with the concept. For example: In sociology, we

learned about Stanley Milgrams shock study and Solomon Aschs line study

early in the semester, but in psychology we didnt learn about these studies

until our last unit of the semester. I quite liked this because I was able to

learn the different ways the studies were interpreted by psychologists and

sociologists.

In psychology I learned about the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud,

and his psychoanalytical theory. A few classes later in sociology, I studied

famous theorists who had theories about personality. My sociology Professor

taught us three theorists, in which one was Freud, who all had opposed views

on personality. For some, Freuds theory was a hard concept to grasp

because of how intricate it is. Freud believed that we all have an Id, Ego, and

Superego, and he also believed that our personality was fully developed by

age six. Luckily, I had already studied Freuds theory in my psychology class

and was now able to focus on learning the opposing theories.

These are just a few of the ways in which psychology has helped me in

other classes this semester, but it has also helped with other things in life.

This class confirmed my desire to major in psychology, and has also sparked

my interest in learning more about the human brain and behavior. I have

been very pleased with this course, and am very excited to take additional

classes for psychology at SLCC.
