EPC 2903 Interview questions including PDP goal

1. What is something you did this year that went better

than you thought it would?
One of the things that want better than I expected is
teaching students. Before I started teaching young
learners, I thought it would be very challenging, but I
discovered teaching those children is fascinating. To
illustrate I thought that one of the students in class called
Rashid might hinder my teaching performance because this
student makes a lot of trouble for most teachers. Also I was
scared because this lesson was very critical for me since I
get my evaluation during teaching this class. However,
after teaching this class I was impressed, when the teacher
evaluated me showed a positive reflection attitude towards
my teaching. At this time I felt delighted and quite
confident of my abilities.

2. What has caused you the most stress this year?

-The most stressful thing I faced is when the students finish their
break and its time to go back to their classes. The students
were running around the playground and they dont want to
go back to their classes. I was talking to them nicely, some
of them formed a line and the others were still playing with
the sand and throwing sands on Rashids face. Rashid was
crying and his eyes were closed and his mouth was all sand,
he couldnt speak he was just screaming in a very loud voice.
Its the first time for me to be in this situation I didnt know
what to do I was so nervous and worried about Rashid.
Because all the students were running around and the
teachers were running after them to catch the students. I
took Rashid to the nurse, I was holding Rashids hand and I
walked with him because he didnt know the directions, he
had sand all over his face. The nurse washed his face and
she cleaned his clothes. The principle took the students who
through sand on Rashids face. The principle punished them
that they will not go to the break time tomorrow, she took
the misbehaved students and she told them to say sorry for
Rashid.

3. What is one way that you grew professionally this

year?
-Infect there were many areas that I have developed in my
teaching. Firstly I succeeded to cooperate with the teacher
of the class which contributed in the success of my
teaching. Secondly I became able to create new activities
that help students develop their skills and performance.
Lastly I gained good experience in classroom management
for example I learned how to organize students in the right
places and react well to students actions and behaviors.
4.
Explain how you differentiated activities and
supported students this semester?
-I assigned varied tasks for all levels for students high
achievers, intermediate achievers low achievers I put
students in groups based on their abilities. I prepare 3
different activities. I will write three examples of
differentiation. High, medium and low. Abilities the lesson
was about Family word in for the students who have high
mental. Students will have a paper and another paper that
has different words and they should cut the words that ends
with in and paste it on the box and in the end of the
lesson the students will count how many words did they cut,
after that they should show me and I will be giving them
stickers. For the students whos in the medium level will
have different pictures so they will read the words and
search for the picture and match. All the words ends with
in. The students whos in the low mental ability needs
simple activity that match with their level so I prepared for
them a simple activity and they will enjoy it. Students will
have different colors of ice cream scoops that has different
written on it, they will sort for the words thats ends with
in and stick it with the glue on the ice cream cone. These
are the different activities that matches their levels.

5. Which student in your class do you think showed the

most improvement? Why do you think this student did
so well?
-One of the students that impressed me after teaching
him .Hos name is Mohammed. This student showed great
improvement, when I taught them a lesson about word
family in, as I start explaining the lesson and right for
them some words that ends with in. Mohammed was
moving around the class and searching for any word that
ends with the letter in. He was moving around and he kept
pointing at the word pin. I praised him by giving him a big
sticker and I told the students to clap for him. He was very
proud and he was engaged while Im delivering the lesson.
All the teachers keep telling me that Mohammed is so
cleaver but the teacher told me , you shouldnt just as
Mohammed questions I know that youre asking him
because he knows all the answers, but you also should give
other students chance to make sure that they understand
the concept of the lesson.

6. Who was your most challenging student? Why?

- Actually, there were two students who were very challenging
while delivering lessons to them. Khalifa and Rashid are so
naughty, first I will talk about Khalifa after that Im going to
talk about Rashids behavior in class. Khalifa interred the
school in the middle of the term and he doesnt know the
school routine and he didnt go to Kindergarten and KG1 as
well so its hard to teach him the routines from the beginning
because it will take so much time. While Im delivering the
lesson all the students are engaged while watching the
video. When the video ends Khalifa starts to walk around the
class and play in the centers, he goes to the toilet without
any permission. When the students starts working on their
activities, the teachers assistant sits with Khalifa on a side
and teach him separately so that the teacher assistant gives
him simple work, easier than the other students because he
cant understand the whole concept in one time so she
divide Khalifas work. However, Rashid is hyper active child
and he really needs someone to control him on his behavior.
While Im delivering the lesson to the students, Rashid
started making noise and distract other students from
learning. He just want to make attention, he wants all the
students to see whats hes doing. I told all the students
that you should participate and behave well so that you can
go to your break time because nothing left and your break
will start so can you all be quite so that we finish the lesson
and then you go to your break time. All the students kept
saying we are behaving well teacher. After that Rashid
kept sitting nicely and he behaved well because he wants to
go to play in the playground with his friends.

7. Describe the behavior management strategies you

used this year and their effectiveness.
-Unfortunately, I havent faced a lot of behavioral problems
in my classes. At the beginning, there were just two students
who used to distract other students attention and make
trouble in the class but I managed to solve this problem by
following two behavioral management statigies. The first
strategy I use was warning them not to repeat these
behaviors or they will face detention when the break get
started. The second effective strategy was detaining
students in the classroom during the break for 5 minutes.
When I tried this strategy, the two students showed regret
and promised to behave well in the coming classes.

8. What was the biggest mistake you made this year?

How can you avoid making the same mistake in the
future?

-Overall, my experience in teaching is still new and Im still

learning how to improve it. However, during this short period
I made few mistakes that could be avoided in the future to
insure that my teaching will be better. One of the major
mistakes that I made was going to the class to teach a
lesson without having sufficient resources to deliver the
lesson. In this lesson I forgot to bring enough sheets for the
students. Five students did not get copies from the sheets
that I gave to the others. These students felt annoyed which
made me feel uncomfortable while teaching that lesson.
Thus, I learned to bring extra copied with me in the future.
Another mistake that I made was going to the class without
knowing how to use the smartboard. I felt shy and I didnt
know how to fix this problem. In order to solve that problem I
talked to the teacher to help me learn how to use the
smartboard properly.
9. Describe the progress that you made towards your
PDP goal and show evidence to support this.

I had 3 PDP goals to achieve from the beginning of this

semester. The first PDP goal is to direct student attention for
example I let the students get more curious. For example
bring a box and ask them what do you think inside this box?
Playing a song to engage them and to let them get interested
to the lesson. The other PDP goal is evaluate students
according their levels. I achieved this goal as well by asking
students more questions that suits their levels. Finally the
last goal was, work on classroom management. For example
when the students will change from one activity to another
while their walking to the other table they start singing
(When we see the (-) sign we take away) and they keep
repeating until they sit down and start the activity. To sum up,
all the activities are achieved well and Im really excited that
I have learned things that I didnt know before.
