For my first lesson, I was to teach the curly caterpillar form of writing the letter a for
My KG-1 students. I was extremely nervous as I was worried the students wouldnt listen to me
and would be too playful with me. I prepared all the materials on each table and waited for my
MST to give me the cue to jump in after her Morning greeting and attendance. I wanted to
ensure that the students knew where to start the top whilst writing the letter as from what Ive
previously seen isnt what they did. The students rather started to just copy how the letter looks
like in any form they want as long as it looks the same. The lesson went by okay, it wasnt as
good as I wanted it to be. I messed up in the beginning because I was suddenly too nervous and
overwhelmed by everything and forgot to have the students practice writing the letter a in the air.
The students followed along well even though it was my first time teaching them, I felt accepted
as a teacher when they started to all try and sit by me during our circle time. I believe the
2
students responded the way they did because they were familiar with me as its my second week
of attending and I got to know them, also with the way of teaching as I followed the MSTs style.
I followed the curriculum and style of teaching similar to the MSTs usual lessons and that
collaboration was issued through a discussion with my MST two days prior to the lesson. I
engaged with the students whilst having them write the letters on their mini white boards and
checking on all their progress, I however regret not being able to have enough time to move
around during activity time on seeing their progress as I was more focused on the SEN student.
The lessons main objectives were achieved and the lessons goal was successful however my
PDP wasnt achieved as it requires a performance arts lesson. One thing I felt was a scaffolding
moment is when my MST said that we dont have enough time to paint, so we had the students
color the letter a sheets then cut them, this helped the students practice the curves, the students
enjoyed the activity, I however sat in constant fear that a student might hurt himself/herself but
