About Voices in Harmony
The approximately 60 singers (SATB) of Voices in Harmony perform in the com-
munity for seniors residences and hospitals, at church and public concerts, and for
community and charity fund-raising events, primarily in Ottawa. Voices in Harmony
was founded in 1974 and adopted its current name in 2014. (We last sang for you in
2005.) Because of our long history we own a rich library of 427 sets of sheet music
that we have performed over the years, and we still learn up to six new songs in
each of our two seasons each year
Voices in Harmony performs 60-90 minute concerts in December and May. Ev-
ery concert includes a sing-along with the audience using our songbooks. Each sea-
son normally includes about eight private performances and one or two fund-raising
performances for a not-for-profit group, and ends with our own public concert,
currently held at Woodroffe United Church.
Our repertoire includes seasonal music in the Christmas performance season,
a blend of spiritual and secular works that offer distinctive, melodic arrangements.
The spring season is quite varied and features tunes from Tin Pan Alley, from the
20s right up to today, and the best of Broadway musicals new and old, jazz and
favourite pop songs. We strive to keep our musical selections familiar to our audi-
ences.
Audiences enjoy the lively performances of Voices in Harmony. Members mem-
orize the music, allowing them to sing directly to audiences of all ages, and the
chorus performs in full costume.
We are a friendly, social group and our rehearsals allow for moments of light
heartedness while keeping the focus on learning the music.

About Carleton Memorial United Church

The heart of Jesus message is the desire for peace. Jesus called people to follow
and find peace of heart and mind in God; He also called people to be at peace
with one another. As Jesus put it Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be
called children of God. (Matthew 5:9) CMUC is a memorial church, founded
by veterans. Our purpose as a congregation is to honour our heritage as a memo-
rial church by living the call of Jesus to be peace-makers. Our church life revolves
around discovering internal peace and creating peace in the world. What does our
commitment to peace-making look like?
Well, sometimes it looks like a group of people sharing their talent to raise mon-
ey for initiatives that make a difference in the world. Sometimes it looks like a small
group gathered around a good book or a film that teaches us about environmental
issues, refugees or something else we should be paying attention to. Sometimes it
means a chat with the minister to get something off our chest and make room for
Gods healing spirit. Sometimes it means belting out a good tune (we welcome
those who cant carry one!) or lighting candles and voicing a sincere prayer.
