Book Study: Worksheets Dont Grow Dendrites
Date: March/April
What is your learning as a result of this experience?
As a result of participating in this book study, I was able practice using a variety of
strategies for elevating students level of engagement in the classroom. I now have
so many strategies that I can use and also share with other teachers in my other
role as Instructional Support Teacher.
How does this new learning impact student achievement?
My learning impacts student achievement, because students found that making
foldables to showcase learning, using new ways to engage learners in how they
respond, and using fun attention strategies will help students because they will be
more engaged in learning.
What immediate actions are you going to take?
I have already tried many of the strategies and then ask the students for feedback
on the strategy. Sometimes I tended to use the same strategies, but now I am using
so many of the strategies presented in this book.
What are the long term implications?
I will continue to keep this book handy and try as many different strategies as I can
to help engage students in learning. Whats great about this is that most of the
strategies are very easy to implement and require little prep time. My students have
also enjoyed the ones that I have tried so far. I will also use these strategies learned
and share with teachers when helping them to provide instruction for our students
who have student support plans.
