University Affiliation
Essay 2 2

An authoritative reference is one which has been formulated by experts who have

sanctioned in that field of study or expertise, for instance, peer- viewed review articles, authority

websites, public documents and books by prominent and well-known publishers. This report will

focus on the authoritative and non-authoritative source which are categorized into four sections

comprising of the; Scholarly journal, the trade publication, organization and electronic sources

and how they are used in our field of study. Academic journal are the authoritative sources since

the scholars have specialty in their areas of research as compared to other sources which often

don't depend on the specialization (Pevehouse, 2013)

Scholarly Journals

Scholarly periodicals are viewed as being more authoritative since scholars are more

knowledge in a particular field. Academic sources comprise of those journals that have been

approved by a group editors with renowned expertise in the area under discussion. Most books

printed by university press fall into this classification as articles that have been published in peer-

reviewed journals. Scholarly pass through a series of procedures for verifying facts for reducing

political bias and for identifying conflict interest. These sources usually made up of an abstract,

an interpretive description of the article contents then followed by the main body. These articles

always are arranged well which give them a sober outlook. Whereby they usually contain many

graphs and charts with few glossy pages or exciting pictures. The academic journals often

provide citations to their sources in the form of footnotes or sometimes they represent concerning

bibliographies. The primary function of the academic journal is to provide an original research to

make such information available to the rest of the academic world. Finally, the kind if the

language that is presented in these journals has some discipline whereby bases it information on

a technical background. Some examples of online databases include the ABI/INFORM

Complete, Academic research complete, business article complete which limit search outcomes

to only the ones that are peer reviewed journals. In our field, one of the examples of scholarly

journals includes the European scholar on International Relations, Journal of International

Relations and Development and international political theory (Fawcett, 2014).

Trade publication

These are a publication that is always written for people engaged in business or industry.

They usually appear in journal articles. This publication often contains news, current events

information, articles and ads of interest to individuals in that industry or profession. These papers

usually do not provide original research, and as a result, they are meant to be practical in nature.

Articles can be retrieved in trade publication from the library subscription databases that includes

both citations and the full text of magazine, journal and newspaper articles. It contains about 80

databases that are covering many different fields and disciplines from the Kent Library

subscription. These items usually appear in 2-3 pages in length since they have an assumption

that the reader knows the basics of the industry and do not often provide an explanation of the

basic concepts. The publications usually lack bibliographies. In fact, in many scenarios trade,

publication articles are not clear on how they learned on what they wrote about beyond

sometimes cryptic notes of industry sources. The primary purpose of this book is that they try to

entertain the reader and sell a product since they act as advertisers plus promoting viewpoint of

the users. One of the examples of the available trade publication in our field always focuses on

geographical areas that range in scope from city coverage to global reach, for instance,

International Business Magazine (Kleinberg, 2015).

Organization
Essay 2 4

We start analyzing the professional associations which entail organizations that act as a

backup body for specialists operating in the same fields. They usually define the position and

support both the individuals and the organizational members to further the positions through

ongoing training, research and quality control skills. Based on the profession different

association produces various articles that have a unique service to its members. Government

agency sources comprise of items from corporations, commissions, and organizations. They are

mandated to set out founding legislation and general roles and responsibilities of the team, for

instance, Health and Environment report from the ministry of health. These agencies work across

different government departments to ensure policy coherence and coordination. These articles

usually lack authenticity since they lack bibliographies at the end of the articles. As a result, they

are based on non-authoritative sources (Fawcett, 2012).

Electronic sources

Electronic sources apply in the setting of findings of online electronic sources, websites,

electronic journals, and data files. These sources are retrieved by the use of the computers

through the means of telecommunications links. Librarians spend time and sources in generating

reference websites since doing so they extend four standard library service function into the

cyberspace which entails the selection, endorsement, organization and cooperation. Online

resource assortment bestows many standards that are outlined for both print and other models of

electronic sources. Based on websites the electronic resources constitutes the core of the library

guides on the articles and research databases page whereby access is retrieved from the library's

website. On the selection entails websites to which we develop links on our site that are usually

selected with the research need. Particular information given by the chosen sites will compensate

for the published monograph models that are out of date or skimpy in the major subject areas.
Essay 2 5

Selection is beneficial to the learners who are studying from a distance or who are occasional

visitors to campus. Organizations focus on carefully annotating each site by the collection and

archiving librarian with information of specific interest (Kleinberg, 2015).

Library electronic sources use databases whereby students can subscribe to the library

database to meet the field's research needs. The resources are arranged by title in alphabetical

order. The databases use A to Z order where a student can search for the article in scholarly

journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers. A single database can cover a broad

range of subject area. Further databases can contain other types of material depending on the

subject matter the database covers. For example, some electronic sources include collections of

e-books, selection of primary source material for instance letter, diaries, and photographs, images

of artwork, legislative files and text of laws and company financial information. Most databases

have a full-text content whereby it provides a student with a link to be able to navigate directly

from the search result to the full version of an article, company report or a historical document.

An example of an electronic source in our field is peace and conflict review (Fawcett, 2012)

Conclusion

In my conclusion the report has clearly stipulated that scholarly journal and electronic

source are quite useful to the student studying here in our campus. Academic journals are vital

since they provide trusted information that can be accessed for your research work. While the

electronic sources assist you to get access to the library database to be able to use the available

useful information from the library through your electronic gadgets.
