Final Artist Statement

Our spring final for Photography was a Joiner photograph. This project was inspired by
artist David Hockney who emphasized the style of photography. A Joiner photograph is a
photograph that shows movement and shows ideas and views. A Joiner photograph can be in
grid format or non-edged format. The photograph can be a portrait, landscape, or a movement.

My Joiner photograph was on a specific motion. Basketball is my favorite sport and is


a personal theme of this photograph. The Joiner was of a field goal jump shot. My two other
themes were a personal and social theme; determination and commitment to athleticism
(personal) and my love for my friends (social). The movement Joiner was inspired by David
Hockney.

I created this Joiner as a final project for my photography class. I portrayed my themes
clearly and thoroughly. This artwork is up on my website and my audience will be able to
interpret my personal perspectives on basketball and my social perspective on my friends. Based
on art history, this artwork follows the guidelines of David Hockneys Joiner photographs. This
picture is based on a raw edged Joiner.

This entire project was inspired by David Hockney only. My work relates to a job a
sports photographer would have. My art was a raw edged Joiner photograph. The photograph
contained three themes: two personal and one social. This project is my 2017 Spring Final for
photography.
