I. INSTALLING ACTIVE DIRECTORY

Domain controller settings:


Domain cimcs.edu.hk
Computer Name dccimlab1
IP Address 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Preferred DNS 10.0.0.1

1. Assign a static IP addresses by right click Network Icon and select Open Network
and Sharing Center.
2. In the Network and Sharing Center window, select Change Adapter Settings.
3. Right click Local Area Connection and Click Properties.
4. Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) box.
5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

6. Select Use the following IP address and enter the IP address, subnet mask and
the Preferred DNS Server address. Click OK and Close.

7. Installing Active Directory by Clicking Start, and then click Run.


8. In the Run box, type dcpromo and then click OK.
9. In Welcome to the Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard, click
Next.

10. In Operating system compatibility Wizard click Next.

11. Select Create a new domain in a new forest and click Next.
12. Enter the DNS Domain Name (cimcs.edu.hk) and click Next.

13. Select the Forest Functional Level (Windows 2003) and click Next.

14. Select the Domain Functional Level (Windows 2003) and click Next
15. In Additional Domain Controller Options page, Click Next.

16. Click Yes to continue.


17. On Location for Database, Log Files and SYSVOL page, click Next.

18. On Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password page, enter the
password and confirm password and click Next.

19. On Summary page, review and click Next.

20. The Active Directory Installation starts and check box Reboot on Completion.

21. After restarting the computer, Active directory will be installed.

How do you verify Active Directory has been installed?

II. CONFIGURING CLIENT TO JOIN DOMAIN

Client computer (Windows 7) settings:


Domain cimcs.edu.hk
Computer Name clientcimlab1
IP Address 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Preferred DNS 10.0.0.1

1. Log in as Administrator to client computer (Windows 7).


2. Assign static IP addresses to the client computer as shown on the above table.
3. Right click Computer Icon and click Properties, and click Change settings.
4. In the System properties dialog box click Change.

5. Change the Computer name, and select the Member of Domain and enter the
Domain name. Click OK

6. Enter the user name Administrator and password, click OK.

7. A Welcome Message Window appears indicating that the computer was


successful in joining the Domain.

8. Click OK and click Close to close the System Properties dialog box.
9. Click Restart Now to restart the computer.
10. Log in as Domain Administrator (Domain name\domain user name).

How do you verify that the computer is a domain member?

III. CREATING DOMAIN USER ACCOUNTS AND GROUPS

Domain controller: Windows Server 2008


Domain user accounts: ASuser01, CIMuser01
Domain user groups: AS_Users, CIM_Users

1. Log in as Administrator to the Domain Controller.


2. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and
Computers.
3. In the console tree, expand your domain, and then Right Click Users Container,
select New User.

4. Specify the First name, and User Logon name and then click Next.

5. Enter the Password and Confirm Password for the User account, click Next.

6. Review the configuration settings for the User Account and then click Finish.
7. Follow the similar steps to create the second domain user account.

8. In the console tree, Right Click Users Container, select New Group.
9. Enter the domain user group name and click OK.

10. Repeat the steps to create another domain user group.

11. Add ASuser01 to AS_Users group by right clicking the user account and select
Add to a group. Enter the group name and click OK.

12. Repeat the steps to add CIMuser01 to CIM_Users group.

13. Check if the user account is added to the corresponding group by double
clicking the user account, and select Member Of tab.

14. Log in as any one of these domain user accounts in the client computer
(Windows 7).
