While there is hardly a better parent for having rational, intelligent discussions with their
children, there is hardly a clumsier example when it comes to providing the emotional
support that many children need, especially as they approach their teenage years. In this
area, INTPs will need to either rely on a more capable partner, or to take themselves far out
of their comfort zone in order to empathize without trying to clear away the tears with an
endless series of rational suggestions and blunt truths.

INTPs want nothing more than for their children to grow up smart, independent, and
tolerant, but if they want them to be well-adjusted too, they must make this eort. INTPs'
parenting style aords a great deal of latitude for their children, but with this freedom comes
responsibility, and it is INTPs' responsibility to ensure that it is used constructively. Though
it's a challenge for people with the INTP personality type to teach empathy alongside
rationality, if they are able to pull it o, their children will grow into condent adults who
know how to ask questions, use their minds, and take care of themselves no matter what
comes their way.

This whole thing describes me as a parent. Can't wait until my little irrational monkeys can have a real
conversation and get something logical from it lol

This basically decribes me, however I don't lack empathy. What I do lack is the inablity to properly express
any percievable empathy.

Lmbo..."the larval stage". Older kids are definitely easier to connect with. But if you allow yourself to
see the intelligence of the "larva" they can be fun too. The endless repetition of peek-a-boo,
however, can be mind numbing.

As a mom of a 3 year old and 9 mo old, this phase is frustrating for me as well. I am doing my best
on the emotional range, but dang it's difficult to take care of irrational little creatures lol

That's what I've been thinking for the past few days. I want them to grow to be able to deal with
things independently but I also feel like I should be helping them. I think I'll be directly involved more
in the beginning and slowly stand back as they reach their tweens/teens.
