This document provides a lesson plan for a math activity for 4-year-olds to identify triangles and their characteristics. The teacher will show triangle-shaped materials and an informational graphic comparing triangles and squares. Children will then form their own patterns using triangle and square shapes to practice differentiating between the two. The teacher will assess each child's understanding by having them show and name the shapes in their patterns.

Teacher uses an infographic made with Easel.ly and this infographic includes information
about triangle and compares triangle and square.

Individual Learning Activities Children form their own patterns by using

square shape that they covered last week and
the triangle shape.
Group Learning Activities -

Summary
The teacher enters the classroom and shows the triangle shaped materials to children. She
asks some questions about these materials to see what children know about triangle. She
talks about the characteristics of triangle. For example, it has 3 edges. To make children
learning more permanent, she shows the infographic that she prepared to the children.
With this infographic, children will also remember about square and compare square to
triangle. The emphasis is on their shapes and the fact that square has 4 edges while
triangle has 3. After children explore the triangle shape, the teacher distributes triangle
and square shaped cards to children and wants them to form their unique patterns by using
these 2 shapes.

Measurement & Evaluation

Assessment Questions:
Descriptive Questions:
Which shapes did you use while forming patterns?
Questions related to objectives:
What is the difference between the shapes pf square and triangle?
What did you pay attention while forming patterns?
Daily Life Questions:
What are some triangle shapes do you see in our classroom?

Measurement & Assessment Activities Each child shows their patterns to their friends
for Individual Performance while saying the each shapes name aloud so
that teacher can see if children can differentiate
square from triangle (square-square-triangle-
square-square-triangle).

Measurement & Assessment Activities -

for Group Performance
Homework (optional) Teacher sends a worksheet to the parents which
includes incomplete shape patterns and the
children are expected to complete them with
their parents.

Explanation
-
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
If the electricity does not work in the class, teacher can download it in her computer and
print the infographic before the class. In this way, teacher can conduct the activity by using
the printout.
