In the course E 638 Assessment of English Language Learners I took for the TEFL/TESL

graduate program, I developed 3 multiple-choice vocabulary items for intermediate-level ESL

learners related to an ESL travel lesson plan. The lesson plan can be found in

includes the description of the construct I am testing, the directions to tell the students exactly

what to do, three multiple choice items, an answer key for each item and a scoring guide.

Vocabulary Multiple Choice Items

Construct Elicit students English vocabulary knowledge about form and meaning

particularly in the context of tourism domain.

Directions Below, there are 3 multiple-choice questions. Each question offers four

choices marked A, B, C and D. Circle the best answer for each question.

Items Question 1: Tourists are lucky to see rare wildlife living in the African

savannah, since they are facing the threat of ____ after years of overhunting.

Question 2: Tourists who are planning to visit Uganda should be cautioned
