FM Transmitter Project Chapter 1

This document provides information about a final project to create a wireless microphone system using FM transmitter and receiver. It was submitted by 7 students to their instructor Engr. Marjorie Villanueva at the Technological Institute of the Philippines. The project involves designing an FM transmitter for audio signal transmission and an FM receiver for audio signal reception and demodulation. The document outlines the background of FM modulation technology, problem statement regarding low-frequency audio signal transmission, objectives of exhibiting learned communication concepts, and significance of wireless microphones in applications like exercise studios and presentations.

CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Frequency Modulation (FM) is one of the angle modulation techniques. This modulation technique is

so common nowadays that it can be found in any kind of commercial radios. Several Projects and researches

have been carried out on this topic since its introduction in 1931

Due to the rapid development of integrated circuit (IC), most of the FM transmitters and receivers

nowadays are constructed and designed using modulator and demodulator IC chips. The use of ganged

inductors and capacitors can also be easily found in modern radio set. However, to understand basic theory

of frequency modulation.

A radio transmitter is device whose main uses is to send information from the user to the listener

where most transmitted are voice and signals. Electrical resonance happens when the frequency of the

listener were the same coming from the speaker which is under the communication, Frequency modulation

transmitter is less distorted compared to the Amplitude modulation and short wave band.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Audio sigals are inherently low frequency signals; and when they are converted into an electrical

signal with the aid of a transducer (e.g Microphone); they produce low frequency electrical signals with low

amplitudes. The amplitude of the signal produced is limited and it is not sufficienct for distant transmission.

Also the efficiency of the low frequency transmission is poor due to the electromagnetic enterference and

limited bandwidth.

Low frequency transmission has a limited electromagnetic spectrum that create technical problems

between the local transmitters as the signals get jammed and influenced by noise.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of this project is to create a Wireless Microphone System using FM Transmitter and

Receiver through the use of an electret mic, trimmer capacitor, capacitors, resistors, inductor, etc.

Further, the project aims to give an idea how an FM Transmitter works through the process of audio

pre-amplification, modulation and transmission. And for an FM Receiver via FM Demodulation.

Lastly, the project aims to exhibit the learned concepts in Principles of Communications.
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

The role that wireless microphone in the society is an important issue to consider in discussion

about which technology can best distribute broadcasting system in the future. The fact that wireless

microphone has an important role in society can be seen in exercise studios, schools, houses of worship,

presentation halls.
