Blog Lesson
Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level): (Level determined by the specific lesson idea)
Level 1: Awareness Level 2: Exploration Level 3: Infusion Level 4: Integration
Level 5: Expansion Level 6: Refinement
Lesson idea implementation: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? How will student learning be assessed? How will
the final product be used to inform/differentiate learning? How will you extend the student learning to a
higher learning level? How will you conclude the lesson? How will you provide feedback to students about
their work? MINIMUM 2 paragraph overview.
Students will be asked to go to the flipped classroom tab on my blog and watch the 2 videos posted
under Multiplying Polynomials prior to coming to class. The first video introduces algebra tiles and explains
what each of the tiles represents. The second video uses the algebra tiles and explains how to demonstrate
polynomial multiplication. After the students watch the videos they are asked to create their own polynomial
multiplication problem. Instruct students to choose 2 binomials that were not used in the video and represent
the multiplication. Since the students do not have algebra tiles at home they can use colored pencils to draw
the tiles on paper, just remind them to define what each of their tiles represents. An example is provided on
the blog with instructions. The picture below is what the blog page looks like for the students.

The next day have the students bring in their pictures and ask for a couple volunteers to share what they did
either by drawing on the interactive whiteboard or displaying their paper to the class using a document
camera. The lesson following would contain multiple activities to support polynomial multiplication and
should include the transition from using algebra tiles to using distribution to complete the multiplication.
Importance of technology: Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if
any, are going to be used in the learning experience?
The blog is useful because it allows the students to view the videos at home and already have a basic
understanding of the multiplication process. It also allows the students to watch the videos over and over
again, if they do not understand the first time. Having them complete this before coming into class saves class
time by reducing lecturing and providing more time for questions, practice problems, and collaborative
activities.

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing example as a model for your project, (whether I part or whole,
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.
I borrowed the videos from YouTube. One was done by Tom Horn and the other by Andy Field.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and
student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you would (1)
minimize risks to students/yourself; (2) alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and (3) follow common
Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies.
The parents/guardians of the students will be notified of the use of the blog and given an opportunity to voice
their concerns with their student using the internet. Those concerns will be addressed and If still not
comfortable the parent can opt their student out of using the blog. In this case the parent and teacher could
work out some other way for the student to be able to watch the needed videos and be given a copy of the
instructions given online. Also the videos the students have to watch were embedded onto the actual blog,
which means the students do not actually go out onto the YouTube website. This prevents them from being
suggested to watch other videos online. The activity was also created so that students would not be posting
onto the actual blog. That way they are not leaving any identifiable information that could viewed by the
public.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. What are you trying that you have not tried before?
What do you hope to learn from this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn?
I have never used a flipped classroom activity before so hopefully it will save class time by reducing lecture
and allow students more time to work with the content through application.
