How To Send (Upload) Your Documents To ERAS?
By USMLE Forums
This is a step by step guide that helps you understand the procedure that
you have to follow to send your documents to ERAS post office in
preparation for the residency match application.
Letters of recommendations:
You will be asked to assign a minimum of three and a maximum of four
letters of recommendations (LoRs) to each program you are going to apply
to.
That does not mean that you can have a maximum of four LoRs since you
can assign different LoRs for different programs. So you can send as many
LoRs as you like.
Each LoR you send should be the original paper with the writer's institution
letterhead and signed manually by him/her.
It's better to mention your AAMC ID in the LoR but this is not mandatory.
It's better to address the LoR to "Dear Program Director".
Its better to have a one page LoR.
For more information about LoRs read here Threads Tagged with LoR
Coversheets:
These are documents that to be attached to each LoR. You can download the
template from here
http://www.aamc.org/programs/eras/ap.../resources.htm or you can also
create the coversheet in your OASIS account by clicking on ERAS support
services then Letters of Recommendation.
Note that if you waive your rights then you have to send this coversheet to
your letter writer after you sign it. He/she then should write the letter and
clip it with the coversheet and send it himself/herself to ECFMG or your
dean's office.
You have to clip each LoR with it's specific coversheet.
California Letter:
You either send the letter or if you don't have it yet you can send the
receipt.
For more information about California letter read this California Letter
(PTAL); How to Apply?
Photograph: you don't to send a hard physical photograph but you need to
upload a digital photograph in your OASIS account. Go to ERAS support
services>photograph
USMLE Scores: You don't need to send any score. Just say Yes to release of
USMLE transcript in your ERAS account. Go to documents>USMLE transcript.
ECFMG Certificate: You don't need to send the hard copy. The ECFMG will
automatically transmit your ECFMG status to your ERAS account.
Check receipt:
Now that you have packed the DSF with the documents mentioned above
you can check whether ECFMG have received it or not, you can do that by
going to your OASIS account then clicking on ERAS support services then
click on verify receipt of ERAS documents.
Remember that your receipt notice may not actually reflect the date your
mail has physically reached the ECFMG. The ECFMG says that there can be a
delay of up to 10 days from the actual receipt to the update of your status.
So if FedEx tells you that your mails arrived there and you don't see the
updated status in OASIS don't panic!
myERAS:
Now that your documents are there in ECFMG, they will verify and then send
it to ERAS post office. The next steps will be working on your ERAS account
to reserve slots and assign LoRs.
ADTS:
Next step is to see when will your documents be transferred from ECFMG or
Dean's office to your ERAS account.
That can be done by checking your Applicant Document Tracking System
(ADTS) in your ERAS account by going to account tab>track applications.
Assign letters:
Once the ADTS indicates that your documents have been downloaded by
ECFMG or dean's office you then can start assigning your LoRs to the various
programs that you will be applying to. You can do that by going to your
ERAS account then click on documents>letters of recommendations.
You can assign the letters even before they are downloaded but keep in
mind that they will not be actually seen by the programs until they are
scanned.
Please note that you can un-assign the LoR after you assign it to a specific
program but that does not mean that the program did not see it as they may
have done so before you un-assign it.
