SearchingtheCatalog(BasicSearch)
Thistopiccoversthebasicsearchofcatalogobjectsfromtheglobalheader.Dependinguponhowyoursystemisconfigured,
youwillusethebasicsearchorthefullyintegratedfulltextsearchtoquicklyfindanobjectwithinthecatalog.

ThebasicCatalogsearch,whichisthestandardsearchdeliveredwithOracleBIEE,givesyoutheproperprivilege
tosearchforobjectsfromtheglobalheaderandtheHomeorCatalogpages.OntheCatalogpage,youcanusethebasicCatalog
searchtolocateanobjectbysearchingforitsexactname,description,location,andtype,only.
Youfindonlythoseobjectsforwhichyouhavetheappropriatepermissions.Whenthedesiredobjectislocated,youcanselectthe
objecttodisplayitforviewingorediting,asyourpermissionsallow.

CreatinganAnalysisandUsingtheAnalysisEditor

2. TheSelectSubjectAreapopupappears.
Asubjectareacontainscolumnsthatrepresentinformationabouttheareasofanorganization'sbusinessorabout
groupsofuserswithinanorganization.Whenyoucreateanewanalysis,thissubjectareaisknownastheprimary
subjectareaandwillappearintheSubjectAreaspaneoftheAnalysisEditor.If,asyouwork,youneedmoredata,
youcanaddadditionalsubjectareasifyouhavepermissiontoaccesstheseadditionalsubjectareas.

IntheSelectSubjectAreapopup,selectASampleSales.TheAnalysisEditorisdisplayed.

ObservetheAnalysisEditor,whichisusedtoexploreandinteractwithinformationbyvisuallypresentingdatain
tables,graphs,pivottables,andsoon.

TheAnalysisEditoriscomposedoftabsandpanes,asshowninthescreenshot,representingthesubjectarea
(columns),availablecatalogobjects,selectedcolumnsfortheanalysis,andfilters(whichlimittheselecteddata).

Asubjectareacontainsfolders,measurecolumns,attributecolumns,hierarchicalcolumns,andhierarchylevels
thatrepresentinformationabouttheareasofanorganization'sbusinessoraboutgroupsofuserswithan
organization.Subjectareasusuallyhavenamesthatcorrespondtothetypesofinformationthattheycontain,such
asPeriod,Regions,Products,Orders,andsoon.

thedata.Youcanaddtotals,customizeheadings,andchangetheformulaoraggregationruleforacolumn.You
canalsoswapcolumns,controltheappearanceofacolumnanditscontents,andspecifyformattingtoapplyonlyif
thecontentsofthecolumnmeetcertainconditions.

Note:IntheCompoundLayout,youcancreatedifferentviewsoftheanalysisresultssuchasgraphs,tickers,and

Filtering,Sorting,andSavingYourAnalysis
Thistopicdemonstrateshowtofilter,sort,andsavetheanalysisyouhavecreatedabove.

Youwilladdafiltertotheanalysisandthensavethefilter.Filtersallowyoutolimittheamountofdatadisplayedintheanalysisandareappliedbefore
theanalysisisaggregated.Filtersaffecttheanalysisandthustheresultingvaluesformeasures.Filterscanbeapplieddirectlytoattributecolumns
andmeasurecolumns.
Afiltercreatedandstoredattheanalysisleveliscalledaninlinefilterbecausethefilterisembeddedintheanalysisandisnot
storedasanobjectinthePresentationCatalog(Catalog).Therefore,aninlinefiltercannotbereusedbyotheranalysesordashboards.
Ifyousavethefilterhowever,itcanbereusedandisknownasanamedfilter.(Namedfilterscanalsobecreatedfromtheglobalheader.)

Performthefollowingstepstofilter,sortandsavethepreviouslycreatedanalysis.

1. a.ClicktheCriteriatabbedpage.SelectthecolumnCustRegions>C50Regiontocreateafilter.Youcancreatea
filterbyhoveringoverthespecificcolumn'stoolbarandselectingtheMoredropdownmenu.

b.IntheMoredropdownmenu,selectFilter.

2. Youcanalsocreateafilterbyclickingthe"CreateafilterforthecurrentSubjectArea"iconintheFilterspane
andthenselectingthecolumnfromthedropdownlist,asshowninthescreenshot.

3. TheNewFilterdialogboxisdisplayed.Acceptthedefaultvaluefortheoperator(isequalto/isin),andentera
columnvalue(orarangeofcolumnvalues)forthiscondition.Todothis,clickthedropdownlistforValue,and
selectthedesiredcheckboxes.SelectAmericasandEMEA.

4. TheFilterspanedisplaysthenewlycreatedfilter.

Savethisfilter.ClicktheMoreOptionsiconinthefilterspaneandselectSaveFiltersfromthedropdownlist.

5. TheSaveAsdialogboxappears.Afiltermustbesavedtoasubjectareafoldersothatitisavailablewhenyou

NavigatetotheSubjectAreaContentsfolderundertheMyFolders.SelecttheASampleSalesfolder.Namethe
filterAmericasandEMEAfilterandacceptthedefaultlocation.IfaConfirmSaveLocationdialogboxappears,
acceptthedefault.OracleBIEEallowsyoutosaveanytypeofbusinessintelligenceobjecttoanylocationwithin
theCatalog.However,forsomeobjecttypessuchasfilters,OracleBIEEsuggeststhebestCataloglocation.
