INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

1. This assignment contains questions set in English.

2. Your assignment should be typed using 12 point Times New Roman font and double spacing.

3. You must submit your hardcopy assignment to your Facilitator and ON-LINE via the MyVLE.
For the online student, you are to submit a softcopy of your assignment via MyVLE and another
softcopy to the facilitator via e-mail. Refer to the portal for instructions on the procedures to
submit your assignment on-line. You are advised to keep a copy of your submitted assignment
and proof of the submission for personal reference. Your assignment must be submitted on
6-8 November 2015 (4th Seminar).

4. Your assignment should be prepared individually. You should not copy another persons
assignment. You should also not plagiarise another persons work as your own.

EVALUATION
This assignment accounts for 60% of the total marks for the course.

OBJECTIVE:
The aim of this assignment is to help you understand of the paradigm shifts in curriculum
development with the advent of the 21st century and to prepare a course module for a
program of study.

INSTRUCTIONS:
You are required to complete all TWO parts of the assignment.

PART A

Read the article: A comparative analysis of international frameworks for 21st century
competences: Implication for national curriculum policies by Voogt & Roblin (2012) obtained
from Curriculum Studies. 2012. Vol. 44. No. 3.

Based on your reading, write an essay on 21st century curriculum in about 10 -12 pages
focusing on the following:
A title that reflects the content of the essay
Discussion on the relevant 21st century competencies needed for learners
Implications for teaching and learning and assessment of the 21st century
competences in classrooms
Relevant findings that can be considered for curriculum development.

PART B

Read articles, books and module related to curriculum planning and designing. Based on
your reading, prepare a course module for students enrolled into a programme of study. The
aim of the course in the programme is to improve students knowledge, values and skills
based on the requirement of 21st century learners.
