Method of Statement For Hydrostatic Test: Document

This 3-sentence summary provides the key details about the hydrostatic test procedure document: The document outlines the hydrostatic test procedure for an air receiver tank, including preparing the tank for testing by cleaning it and installing necessary accessories. It specifies applying the test pressure in gradual increments and holding it for 2 hours while recording pressure and temperature, and outlines acceptance criteria of no distortion or leakage during the test pressure. The test is done to verify the tank meets the minimum requirements of applicable ASME and B31.3 codes.

Hydrostatic Test
Engineering AJM23-40-HTP-ART-013
Procedure

1. GENERAL
This procedure covers minimum requirements for hydrostatic test of Air Receiver tank in
shop.

2. APPLICABLE CODE AND STANDARD

ASME Code Section VIII Division 1 Edition 2015
ASME Code B 31.3
3. PREPARATION
3.1. Medium of hydrostatic test
The water used for hydrostatic test of Pressure Vessel shall be clean water.
3.2. Cleaning
Prior to filling water, the Pressure Vessel to be thoroughly cleaned from all loses
Material Dirt, Grease, Weld Spatter, Oil and Flux at Inside and Outside of Pressure
vessels.
3.3. Equipment
Accessories are to be set on equipment
Blind Flanges,
Pressure Gauge,
Inlet Connection,
Drainage Connection,
Note : Two pressure gauge and pressure recorder minimum shall be used with
graduation 1.3 up to 5 times of test pressure. Calibration status of them shall be
checked for usable and at any time that there is reason to believe that gauge
are in error, they shall be re-calibrated.
4. APPLICATION
4.1. Position
The Pressure Vessel to be hydrostatic tested in vertical position using additional
support at test pressure and hold for two hours minimum. The supports are to be
positioned so as not to impose undue stress in the shell and to minimize deflection.
Minimum hydrostatic test pressure shall be same as test pressure specified on the
approved drawing. Vent to be provided at highest position of pressure vessel in which it
is to purge possible air pockets while pressure vessels are filling. Inspection shall be
made at all joint and connections at the test pressure. After success of testing,
pressure is reduce gradually to zero and water is to be completely removed and the
inside thoroughly drained off and dried in natural way. Bolt tightening is prohibited
during hydrostatic test.
4.2. Test pressure to be applied as follows
Increase pressure gradually at one-third of Internal design and hold for about 15
minutes for inspection. Then Increase the pressure to the test pressure, and hold for 2
hours (minimum) for inspection. After holding 2 hours in test pressure, decrease
pressure back to Internal design and hold for 15 minutes. Finally decrease pressure to
atmospheric pressure.
