CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

An online examination system is an examination that many educational institutions and other

forms either private or public company use to select staff for recruitment. These examinations

system can be use at any level of education, from primary to higher education, or from any other

private or public companies although they are more common at higher levels. Online

examination systems are very convenient and fast. Online examination system has three

purposes.

i. To allows candidate to sit/take the examination at place/ designated centre.

ii. Registration can take place at anywhere that has internet service.

iii. To integrate database with the program allowing administrator easily addition of question

and creation of online examination system.

This document will propose all features and procedures to develop the system. This document

specially containing details about objectives, scope limitation, process model, primary

requirements, team development, possible project risks, project schedule, and finally monitoring

and reporting mechanisms. Online Examination safes the time that will take to check the paper

and prepare mark sheets. It will help the Institute to online examination of staff and develop their

skills. But the disadvantages for this system, it takes a lot of times when you prepare the exam at

the first time for usage. And we are needs number of computers with the same number of staffs.

The effective use of "Online examination system for staff recruitment", any Educational Institute

or training centers can use it to develop their own, and for getting better results in less time.
1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Many organizations do not have competitive personnel and this negatively affects the

productivity and image of the organization. In addition, there is no effective structure to recruit

staff that is able to stand up to the responsibility of their duties. Many organizations still adopt

the manual method of recruiting and the applicants are limited to those in their immediate

environment. Also, many applicants find it difficult to get to the examination centers due to

distance and high cost of transportation. Organizations are unable to reach out to a wide

spectrum of applicants so as to be able to recruit the best employees. The traditional examination

for recruitment is usually characterized by cheating which hampers the credibility of recruited

employees. There is need for a more effective system that is able to reach out to a wider

spectrum of employees, breaking the barrier of distance and cost and thereby promoting the

recruitment of well qualified staff.

Design and implementation of an online examination system for staff recruitment. This

system allows candidates to register and take an examination in the system. The administrator of

this system are allowed to login for contributing questions and viewing of candidates profile.

Administrators will be able to access the system to sign up to a new online examination, manage

questions, accounts and view profile of the staff or exams taker.

I will borrow a host for implementation our system. Our group will keep the existing

online examination catalog database by using Microsoft access to access database.

1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The aim of this study is to design and implement a computerized online examination system for
staff recruitment.
The following are the objectives of the study;

i. To study the existing system.


ii. To design, develop and improved system of (i).
iii. To implement the newly developed system of (ii) above.
iv. To test the newly developed system.
v. To deploy to end users and maintain the new system.

1.3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

i. Interview and Questionnaire will be used.


ii. Using of UML method.
iii. Using of VB.Net for implementation and MS Access for my database.
iv. Setting up conducive environment for the testing.

1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This Supplementary Specification applies to the Online Examination system for staff

recruitment, which will be developed by me under close supervision of Mr. Onwuegbuzie I.U.

using all the necessary material within my reach to ensure a successful project result.

This specification defines the non-functional requirements of the system; such as

reliability, usability, performance, and supportability, as well as functional requirements that are

common across a number of use cases. (The functional requirements are defined in the Use Case

Specifications.)

1.5 EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

This project is to recruit staff in to various departments in the higher institution.

The program developed is to perform a better staff recruitment in order to admit staff into

different department in the institution.
