Lesson: Maps
Go over page 9 with students about Maps and do questions at the bottom of the page. Go over pages 10 & 11 hitting each work area for students to
complete.
Tuesday Unit EQ: How do maps help us understand the world?
Lesson 1 EQ: Why are maps important?

Go over page 12 with students about thematic maps. Have students practice using the map scale to determine distance.
Wednesday Unit EQ: How do maps help us understand the world?

Lesson: Lesson 1.3 Understanding Place Value pages 21-22. Students will do One Your Own and Problem Solving sections on pages
Independent: Math Book p23-24 23-24 independently.
Wednesday EQ: How do you describe a two-digit number? Activity: Work with student to complete the Listen and Share & Show sections on
Lesson: Lesson 1.4 Expanded Form pages 25-26. Students will do One Your Own and Problem Solving sections on pages

Monday EQ: How does asking questions as you read help you to understand important information?
Lesson: Questioning
Read P10 and introduce Questioning. Have students look at the picture on page 10 and use it to complete the ask/answer chart on page 11. When
complete, have students turn and talk to discuss the question on the bottom of page 11.
Small Group Lesson: Students will be introduced to the spelling words for the week with phonics skill (short a) and the Vocabulary words for the
week.
Independent: Centers
Tuesday EQ: How does asking questions as you read help you to understand important information?
Lesson: Questioning
Read aloud Rabbits Cozy Home on p12 and complete the ask/answer chart on p13. When chart is complete, have students turn and talk to
discuss question 2 at the bottom of the page.
Small Group Lesson: Students will be introduced to paragraphs and how to number them to understand questioning on quizzes and tests.
Independent: Centers
Wednesday EQ: How can we find the meaning of a word within text?
Lesson: Context Clues
Read aloud What I AM on P14 and introduce context clues while reading (use the word rainforest and show how the area around the word gives
the meaning of the word). Work with students to answer questions 1 & 2 on page p15. When questions are complete, have students turn and talk
to discuss question 3.
Small Group Lesson: Students will work to find context clues that will help them understand works within the given text.
Independent: Centers
Thursday EQ: How do we respond to questions with writing?
Lesson: Short Responses
Revisit both stories from the last two days and discuss how to write short responses to questions. Work with students to help them create
short responses for the questions on pages 16 & 17.
Small Group Lesson: Students will revisit the phonics skill of the week (short vowel a) and identify words with the short a sound.

Lesson: Weekly Assessment
Independent: Students will take the weekly assessment for Reading Comprehension on p18-22, Vocabulary, Spelling, and Phonics.
