Navaratri is celebrated five times a year. They are Vasanta Navaratri, Ashadha Navaratri, the
Sharada Navaratri, and the Paush/Magha Navaratri. Of these, the Sharada Navaratri of the month of
Puratashi and the Vasanta Navaratri of the Vasanta kala are very important. Vasanta Navaratri is
celebrated during Vasanta Rhitu (beginning of summer) (March- April). This is also known as Chaitra
navaratri as it falls during the lunar month of Chaitra.

According to Hindu Tradition People worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga during Navratri. These
nine forms represent not just the secrets of nature but also giving a message for the human race.
Shailaputree is the first form of Goddess Durga. Shailaputree gives the message of protecting and
conserving the nature.Brahmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga. This form represents the high
values of a womanChandraghanta id the third form of Goddess Durga. Chandraghanta apostle of bravery.
Kushmanda id theFourth form of Goddess Durga She is represents of Dharma, Skandmata is the fifth form
of Goddess Durga. Skandmata represents a mother.Katyayani is the Sixth form of Goddess Durga.
Katyayani is represents to kill the demons and sinners. Kalratri is the Seventh form of Goddess Durga.
She represents to destroyer of all demonic effect. Mahagauri is the Eight form of Goddess Durga.
Mahagauri represents Monster liberator. Siddhidatri is the Ninth form of Goddess Durga. Siddhidatri
represents perfection in life

According to Hindu Scriptures navratri is the most appropriate time for worshipping Goddess Durga. The
navratri falling on chaitra and ashwin month are very important for Hindus.

During Navratri People place the idol of Goddess Durga and ghat (pot) during this period. The best way
to worship Durga has been described by Scriptures this will help you to fulfil all your wishes.
This is also believed to be apt time for performing Some Sadhan to appease Goddess.

According Classical traditions goddess Skandmata is worshipped on the Fifth day of Navratra. She is
the mother of Lord Skand Kumar (Kartikeya) . hence she is given the name of Skandamata. The goddess
Skandmata possesses four arms and is seated on a lotus. goddess Skandmata has four arms. She holds
lotus in two hands and uses the other hand to support Lord Kartikeya sitting on her lap. Her Down the right
side hand is raised to bless the devotees. Whenever the tyranny by the demons increases, goddess
Skandmata rides on a lion and kills them. Devi Skandmata is the diety of the solar system.

hair always open and waves in the air) and her necklace beads are Bright and shiny like Lightning,
She has three eyes which emanate rays like lightning. Flames appear through her nostrils when she
inhales or exhales air. This form of Goddess is believed to be the destroyer of all demonic effect. Goddess
Kalaratri is also known as Shubhankari as she always give auspicious results to her devotees.
Lord Brahma worship the goddess Kalaratri to protect his life from the demon named MadhuKaitab
and to wake up Lord Vishnu from the sleep.
