SECTION : 1
1.0 Introduction
DC or direct current motor works on the principal, when a current carrying conductor
is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a torque and has a tendency to move. This is
known as motoring action. If the direction of current in the wire is reversed, the direction
of rotation also reverses. When magnetic field and electric field interact, they produce a
mechanical force, and based on that the working principle of DC motor is established. In
this project, we are going to find the result simulation of control system DC Motor by
using software MATLAB SIMULINK.
From the figure above, we can see that the voltage source is applied to the motor
armature by passing through passive components a resistor and inductor. The ouput of the
load is the rotational speed of rotor. The list below is the parameters for the figure above
MATLAB Simulink will be used to find the result analysis of a linear model for a DC
Motor.

Methodology is a method used to analyse and designing a project. The methodology that
we used in this project is conducting discussions about the task given and distribute the task to
all group members. Then, we started to study the software that we need to use; Simulink and
MATLAB by exploring the MATLAB tutorial from the internet. After the software used was
familiarised, we started the project by following the instruction given in the tasks mention in
Problem Format, using the softwares functions that are suitable to be done. The simulations
from the software which is the output that are required in this project are described and explained
in simulation modeling, control design and analysis.
4.0 Modelling
The motor torque, T, is related to the armature current, i, by a constant factor K: T = Ki.
(1) The back electromotive force (emf), Vb, is related to the angular velocity by: Vb =
K = K d dt . (2) 1 From Figure 1 we can write the following equations based on the
Newtons law combined with the Kirchhoffs law: J d2 dt2 + b d dt = Ki, (3) Ldi dt +
Ri = V K d dt .
The transfer function of a modelling is
(+)(+)+ 2
() /
P(s) = = (+)(+)+ 2

By using Simulink, we modelled our control design with a PID controller. This model
used a step block, a pid controller block, a transfer function block, and an oscilloscope.
