WORKSHOP SAFETY RULES

Definition of safety:

Precautions to avoid from danger, threat from harm or injury to a person in secured condition.
It is a regulation in the workplace and the processes, operations and handling the equipment.

Importance of safety

In colleges laboratory or workshop, accidents are unpredictable and common in all cases. Safety
and regulation should displayed and remind by the lecturer to avoid accident and misuse the
machinery and equipment. It is also very important to students and workshop staff.

Mechanical hazard in workshop

Mechanical hazards causes injuries happen when body part contact with moving mechanical
machinery. Working near machinery can be dangerous and has chances lose our fingers or our
toes. With proper safety rules and technician guidance, injuries can be prevented.

Crushing
Shearing
Cutting or severing
Entanglement
Drawing-in or trapping
Impact
Mobile machineries
High-pressure fluid injection
Hazards associated with the use of lifting equipment include:

falling of elevated materials due to improper fixing, tying, slinging, etc.,


structural failure of lifting equipment due to overloading
overturning of mobile cranes due to improper operations
Striking of persons or objects by the lifting equipment or by the loads being lifted as a
result of inadequate visibility of the operator, etc.

Electrical hazards in workshop

Electrical hazards can be dangerous and fatal. Any equipment that operated by electricity must
be done in a place where protection from electric shock and burn are provided. With an efficient
safety rules in workshop, electrical injuries and fatality can be prevented.

Safety precaution in workshop


1. Wear long pants and shoes all the time in workshop
2. Workshop safety rules must be read, understood and followed by workshop users
3. Staff and students should not work alone in workshops if they need to operate potentially
dangerous machinery or engage in potentially dangerous work processes.
4. Students are not allowed to use machineries without instructors guidance
5. Proper protective gear must be used by the students when working at a machine.
6. Gloves, watches, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry must NOT be worn while operating
machines.
7. Make sure the machines are in good condition before operating it.
8. All conducting surfaces of machines must be grounded properly.
9. NEVER use your hands or any other objects to stop the moving parts of a machine.
10. All students should get instructor advise before they start to use workshops machineries.
