1.GENERAL:
1.1 The basis for repairs shall be an API Std 653 equivalence.
1.2 Hydrostatic testing requirements,nondestructive examination requirements,
acceptance criteria for the welds and existing welds are spacified in API 653
section 12.
1.3 All repair work must be inspected by certified inspector .
1.4 All proposed welding procedures,examinationand testing methods must be
approved by the authorized inspectoror engineer experienced in storage tank
dsign.

2. SURFACE PREPRATION :
2.1. According to applicable code the repair area shall be claened and any defects
such as (cracks,lack of fusion,slag,porosity,itc.) shall be removed completely by
gouging and/or grinding.

2.2. All area which will be patched must be cleaned from any contamination (oil ,
grases , spatter ,itc) before start fitup.
2.3. Zero weld & annular to floor plate welds shall be cleaned after removing the
anuular plates .
2.4. area in shell which contain tack weld must be cleaned befor welding.

3. Repair procedure:
3.1. PATCHES:
3.1.1 . Patch plates shall be comply with API 653 std.
3.1.2. Distribution of ptch plates as per fig 9-5 at API 653.
3.1.3. Fitup patch on defected area on plates.
3.1.4. Welding of patch plates as per Approved WPS.

3.2. Removing the anuular plates:

3.2.1. At (0) :
3.2.1.1 To support the shell using a suitable jack connected to attached steel beam
which already welded to the shell.

3.2.1.2 cutting welds between annular plate and shell plate (see to API 653 par. 9-10-
2-3) .
3.2.1.3. Cutting welds between annular plate and floor plate.
3.2.1.4 Cutting welds between anuular plates.
3.2.1.5 remove anuular plate.
3.2.1.6 cutting new annular plate as per drawing.
3.2.1.7 insert new anuular plate.
3.2.1.8 fitup the new annular plate to floor plates .

3.2.2. At (180) :
3.2.2.1 repeat the previous stepes as per 3.2.1.

3.2.3 Repeat the perivious stepes in clockwise.


3.2.4. Complete the welds of annular plates, shell to annular plate, and finally the floor
plate to annular plate
3.2.5 Remove the steel beams attached to the shell.
NOTE:
** If any damage ocuured in the ring beam , it shall be repaired.

3.3. Repair of tack welds :


The area with defectes shall be opened with grinding and fill by welding .

4. INSPECTION:
After Completing the repair work , the following tests will be applied :
1) Visual test to all patch on plate , zero welds & repair of tack welds.
2) Magnetic test for shell areas of removed attached beams, patch on plates &
zero weld.
3) Vaccum test for annular with floor welds.
4) UT for annular plates welds.

5. ACCEPTANCE / REJECTION CRITERIA


Cracks,lack of fusion,slag,porosity.and other defectes shall be referred to the API 653

6. REFERANCE
API 653, applicable edition, for acceptance criteria.
Clients specification requirements for acceptance criteria.

7. RECORDS

The visual test report, magnetictest, UT& Vacuum box test report shall be
completed by the inspector performing the test.

8. Attachment:
WPS's & PQR's for Annular plate with bottom plates weld & annular plate with
annular plate .
