Section 4 - Conductors: 4-004 (22) Service Conductors For Common Residential Services Table 39

The document discusses new changes to conductor sizing rules in the Canadian Electrical Code. It introduces updated tables for minimum permitted conductor sizes for residential services at various voltage ratings and ampacities. Notes are provided to explain application of the tables. Diagrams have been rearranged and updated to correspond with revised IEEE calculation tables. Clarification is also given on determining equipment termination temperature limitations and applying corresponding ampacity derating factors.

4-006 - Termination Temperature Limitations
Where a conductor is terminated on equipment with a 60C or 75C
rating, the maximum conductor ampacity shall be based on the 60C or
75C column of Tables 1, 2, 3 or 4.

When equipment termination temperature rating is not marked on the

equipment it is to be:
(a) 60C for equipment:
(i) rated not more than 100 A; or
(ii) marked for use with a No. 1 AWG or smaller conductor;
and
(b) 75C for equipment:
(i) rated more than 100 A; or
(ii) marked for use with conductors larger than No. 1 AWG.

4-006 - Termination Temperature Limitations

All relevant correction factors being determined from Rule 4-004,

will apply to the ampacity rating from the equipment termination
temperature rating, not the conductor insulation temperature
rating.

High voltage equipment termination temperature rating, when

not marked, is as per the manufacturer.

Equipment termination temperature rating applies to the first

1.2m of the conductor from the connection point on the
equipment.
