Jeremiah Program was founded in Minneapolis in 1993 when the Rev. Michael J.
OConnell from the Basilica of St. Mary answered a call to engage others in breaking
the cycle of poverty for a growing number of children born to poor single mothers in
the community. He assembled prominent leaders from key sectors of business,
education, faith, government and philanthropy to gather input. Then, with the support
of many, he began to move the vision forward. These early conversations turned into
programs and became Jeremiah Program.

Jeremiahs proven, holistic approach begins with establishing a supportive community

for single mothers to pursue a career-track, college education. With this supportand
a combination of quality early childhood education, a safe and affordable place to live,
and empowerment and life skills trainingfamilies find stability and begin to see a
path out of poverty.

The work of Jeremiah Program has led to amazing results of educational attainment,
family stability and ongoing opportunity for hundreds of families in Minneapolis/St.
Paul.

Today, with the headquarters (National Office) and its initial flagship campuses in
Minneapolis/St. Paul, Jeremiah Program is expanding throughout the country to meet
the growing demand for its model. The organization now has operating campuses in
Minneapolis and St. Paul, and Austin, Texas. Construction began on a campus in
Fargo, North Dakota/Moorhead, Minnesota in June 2017. In addition, community
leaders in Rochester, Minnesota and Brownsville, New York are developing plans to
bring Jeremiah Program to their communities.

The National Office provides valuable support and services to Jeremiah Program
campuses throughout the country in areas such as programs, evaluation and
fundraising.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul Overview
The Minneapolis location was established in 1998 and expanded in 2002. It offers 39
residential apartments and a child development center in the heart of downtown
Minneapolis near Minneapolis Community and Technical College. The St. Paul
campus, established in 2007, offers 38 residential apartments and a child
development center in the Rondo neighborhood, with easy access to several nearby
post-secondary institutions. Both campuses are conveniently located on major
transportation lines. The apartments are fully furnished.

The Minneapolis and St. Paul child care centers have each earned the highest four-
star rating from Minnesota Parent Aware, the leading rating system for early childhood
care and education programs. Both sites offer spacious outdoor play areas and indoor
areas for residents to gather for formal meetings and informal conversations.

Support for a Career-Track, College Education A
college degree creates a path out of poverty for low-
income single mothers. Jeremiahs professional
coaches help women set educational goals, choose a
career-track path, and get into and through their degree
program. This individualized support promotes a culture
of accountability and success.
Quality Early Childhood Education On-site or partner early childhood centers
provide the high-quality education that lays the crucial foundation for academic
achievement, social success, and economic productivity. Jeremiah coaches
parents to become partners in their childrens education.
Safe & Affordable Housing Jeremiah Program offers young mothers and their
children safe and affordable housing or, with non-residential programs, ensures
that such housing is in place. The stability provided by this housing allows women
to grow as parents, succeed as students, and prepare for career-track professions.
Empowerment & Life Skills Training Empowerment is the catalyst for young
women to change the direction of their lives. This required course promotes
accountability and a deep understanding of how beliefs impact outcomes.
Jeremiah women participate in weekly life skills training in career development,
economic independence, physical and emotional health, and positive parenting.
Jeremiah staff coach participants to integrate skills into everyday actions.

Supportive Community The supportive community begins with the Jeremiah

sisterhood; by taking this journey together, the women grow in self-confidence
and develop cooperative relationships. Coaches work one-to-one offering
women support, advice, and accountability in dealing with daily challenges and
opportunities. Dedicated volunteers extend womens access to community
resources and networks, resulting in expanded social capital for Jeremiah
families.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The MSP Executive Director oversees the Minneapolis and Saint Paul campuses of
Jeremiah Program and is responsible for delivering outstanding programs that achieve
meaningful results in alignment with the overall mission of the organization.

This position reports jointly to the Chief Operations Officer of Jeremiah Program as
well as to the MSP Community Board. The MSP Community Board is comprised of a
dedicated group of talented leaders who care about the mission of the organization.
Board committees contribute strategic ideas and guidance.

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership in the areas of education,
employment and early childhood programs, new program development, program
evaluation, fundraising, communications and external relations. Further, the MSP
Executive Director will set fundraising and advancement goals and support
achievement of those goals.

The Executive Director will lead approximately 40 full-time staff in the two campus
locations of Minneapolis and Saint Paul and will manage a budget of $2.8 million.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director are the Director of Coordinated Family
Services, Director of Development, Volunteer Manager and Office Administrator. With
an eye to the mission and vision of the organization, the Executive Director will
cultivate a positive organizational culture where staff members can grow, develop and
be their best.

This position is one of a group of Executive Directors within Jeremiah Program.

These executives provide leadership and guidance to the local organization, but also
collaborate with National Office, providing input and collaborative assistance to make
the whole organization stronger.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Planning
Provide strategic direction for the Minneapolis and Saint Paul Program.
Work as a collaborative leader with the Chief Operating Officer, MSP Community
Board, President & CEO and Minneapolis and St. Paul campus leadership in
establishing the goals and objectives for the campus, developing program
priorities and recommending changes to any operating policies and procedures.

Lead the MSP Community Board and staff in governance and program delivery;
serve as ex-officio member of all committees of the MSP Community Board.
Facilitate short and long-term strategic planning for the campuses in alignment
with the organizations strategic plan.
Advise the Chief Operating Officer and MSP Community Board of organizational
activities, trends and any critical issues facing the organization.
Foster effective team work between the MSP Community Board and the Chief
Operating Officer and between the campus staff and the resources within the
national office, i.e. marketing/communication, finance, operations, and
development.
Be a thought leader in the areas of poverty alleviation, family services,
educational opportunities and access to education and child development.

Leadership
Create a strong strategic vision for the MSP Community.
Hire, coach, develop and retain a committed, qualified staff.
Create a positive, team-oriented culture that celebrates and rewards staff
members.
Create a culture of innovation to best serve families in the MSP Community.
Provide operational direction to campus employees in developing procedures
that support the effective operation of the community campuses.
Foster teamwork between campus staff and other staff throughout the
organization.
Jointly develop goals and objectives for direct reports that align with the
programs strategic priorities. Work with direct reports, providing the support
needed for them to achieve their goals.

Fundraising & External Relations

Provide strategic vision and direction for a comprehensive campus advancement
plan. Achieve annual fundraising revenue objectives.
Understand and demonstrate experience with the fund development process,
including the ability to bring strong major and annual gifts to the organization.
Provide strong, creative, energetic and strategic leadership required to achieve
annual revenue goals.
Along with other Jeremiah Program executive leaders, act as a spokesperson at
community events to enhance the organization's visibility in Minneapolis and St.
Paul.
Maintain and establish strong collaborative relationships with various community
businesses and organizations to provide a network of community support that
can serve the educational and employment needs of program participants.

Foster strategic partnerships to increase engagement by corporations in all

aspects of the campus ranging from financial investment to the sharing of
expertise and the creation of employment and internship opportunities for
Jeremiah women.

Operations & Programming

Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures to improve operations
and overall effectiveness of the campus; serve as a model for expansion sites.
Set and monitor the annual operating budget for program services on campus
and collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer on
the campus annual budget.
Champion program excellence with campus leadership. Identify, assess, and
evaluate the impact and efficacy of programs.
Build strategic alliances that expand long-term resources and opportunities for
improved overall awareness in the communities served.
Leverage volunteers and interns to increase organizational capacity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess senior management experience in an organization of
similar size and complexity, ideally including experience in a family-serving
organization. S/he will bring successful fundraising and resource development
background and experience leading and motivating professional staff and volunteers.
A degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences or related field is required.

A skilled communicator, the Executive Director will have the ability to establish
credibility and relationships with key stakeholders including the MSP Community
Board, MSP Staff and Volunteers, National Office Staff, Donors, and Program
participants. S/he will bring a strong strategic orientation along with the ability to
achieve operational objectives. The fully qualified candidate will have experience
working with diverse populations. This role requires a sincere commitment to diversity

Incorporated as a city in 1867, Minneapolis is named for the Dakota word
Minne (meaning of the waters) and the Greek word polis (meaning city);
fitting for a town that contains 22 lakes. Today, Minneapolis and its twin city, St.
Paul, have over 3 million residents. Together they make up the 14th largest
metropolitan area in the country.

The Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis are a unique

blend of small town and major cosmopolitan hub. Both urban
cores boast a thriving business atmosphere. Saint Paul, as
the state capital, is home to state government and has a
more historical vibe. Minneapolis is the larger and more
commercial of the two cities. Outside of the central
downtowns, however, both cities have many distinct

The active lifestyle of Twin Cities residents doesn't lie dormant during the winter
either. There are miles of cross-country skiing trails, several downhill ski areas
within an hours drive, ice skating, snowmobile riding, sledding, andof course
ice fishing.

For those who prefer activity of the spectator variety, the Twin Cities is home to
several major sports teams: Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Wild,
Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx, Minnesota United FC (soccer), and
Minnesota Swarm (lacrosse).

There is also a minor league baseball team, the Saint Paul Saints. The areas have
hosted the World Series, Super Bowl, NCAA Basketball Finals, the USGA U. S.
Open, PGA Championships and the Special Olympics. In 2014, Target Field was
the setting for baseball's All- star Game. In 2018, the Super Bowl will be played in
a newly built state-of-the-art stadium.

For the museum-goer, there are more than 60 museums in the Twin Cities. The
Science Museum of Minnesota and the Minnesota Children's Museum (both in
Saint Paul) are highly interactive learning and fun experiences for the entire
family. The Minnesota History Center is an interactive museum for all ages with
permanent and changing exhibits, lectures and events.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts has a collection of more than 100,000 pieces.
The Walker Art Center has been called possibly the best contemporary art
museum in the U. S. by Newsweek, and has over 11,000 pieces. The University
of Minnesota's Weisman Art Museum is also a contemporary art destination.

Beyond the outdoor, sports, entertainment, and culture, perhaps the biggest
attraction for the Twin Cities is the lifestyle. Forbes hailed Saint Paul and
Minneapolis as the nation's healthiest cities. USA Today named Saint Paul as
North America's Most Romantic City. The Twin Cities offer award-winning
restaurants (several chefs have been regional James Beard Award winners). In
