How to Make Lanterns

What youll need (per child):

- 1x piece of A4 coloured
card
- Hole puncher
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Glue
- Tape
- 2 pieces of yarn
- Craft materials to
decorate

2. Take a piece of card, place it in a

portrait position and fold it length
ways

1. Using a ruler, rule a line

approximately three finger widths
from the long, unfolded edge (or
about an inch if you have adult
sized fingers)

1
3. Starting from the
folded edge, cut from
the edge to the ruled
line, make the cuts about
two finger widths apart

4. Unfold the paper and

punch a hole about a
quarter of the way in
from the left, repeat on
the right side

5. Turn the page over so the bend in

the fold is on the outside. Glue along
one short edge, curl the paper around
and stick the edges together

6. Children might like to decorate at

this point

2
7. Take a piece of yarn, thread the
end from the outside to the inside of
one of the holes punched earlier. Tie
the yarn into a knot to keep it in
place, it may need to be tied several
times or tied through a bead (as
pictured)

8. Children write a suggestion about

how they can show love during
Church celebrations on a piece of
card.
9. This card is then attached to a
piece of yarn and tied to the lantern.

And finally display your lanterns!
