COURSE DESCRIPTION

Applied Communications teaches communication skills required for success in todays


workplace. This course combines academic studies from previous English courses, namely
literature, vocabulary and grammar, with hands-on practice of job-related communication skills.
This course will cover the literary and writing skills. Applied Communications offers a
practice, comprehensive approach to success in English with skills that are critical both at school
and on the job. Students will learn skills such as how to complete forms, write documents,
prepare presentations, create a portfolio, and they will be able to transfer these
skills in new situations. This year- long course will cover the grammatical and technical
aspects of writing along with the critical analysis of informative and literary readings.

Your grade is dependent on the pattern of scores you manage to meet based on the proficiency
scale descriptions (skills met for the quarter). Assignments and assessments are all of equal
value. You are capable to receiving scores 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 which have various descriptions of what
you should know. A Score 3 is the TARGET you should aim to get.

notes or assignments. Makeup work should be turned in within or two (2) days from your
return back to class. You will be held accountable and responsible for all assignments due and
your progress.
